Biggest mulloway caught on tape. Taken from Western 2016. Secret Silver aka muloway aka jewfish are the most highly prized fish in Aus. When they are this size they once in a lifetime fish. Truly.

It wont have survived ( see all the blood streaming out of it and it's obviously buggered), was too severely injured and would have ended washed up on a beach . If the fish is in good shape when landed it can be returned and should survive. Catch and release is OK for braggards, but most of us fish for the table, a big jewfish will steak up and also provide fillets that will feed a family for weeks - they freeze up nice in the deep freeze.

if you are fishing of the beach then you do not need a gaff if you are fishing of rocks or a boat a gaff is often needed that was also a giant jewfish and it would not have been landed without a gaff and anyone who catches such a amazing fish will take it home so it was going to die anyway , anyone agree.

Mulloway get just as big here. There was a photo of a 100kg specimen that died in the Swan River during an algal bloom about a decade (?) ago. Was in one of the main newspapers. I'm sure somebody here in WA will remember the fish. Old timers remember 50+kg fish too.

Biggest Jewie caught in Australia is 57.4kg by a spear-fisherman. It is on internet and it makes this one look smaller. I don't like seeing big fish of any species killed, as they are often not the best eating, and can be full of worms. They usually are the breeders too. In this day and age, with species extinctions and over-fishing, people should be doing the right thing. Why not measure and photograph it, then release it.

Best I've seen was a 120 pound jewie landed was in the 1970s from the end of Stockton B/W by a guy who was fishing "a fresh" using a live mullet under a big home made foam float using a big centrepin reel on a big rod. Best I've caught was an 86 pound jewie from Nobbys Wall in 1995 while after fishing all afternoon for Snapper in the Shark-Hole. Anyone can land big jew from a boat, it lots harder from the rocks.

We literally filmed weighing it and measuring it. So I’m not sure how you could possible dispute the size. We’ve caught many large Jews and your comment is pretty bloody disrespectful to be honest. When you’ve caught and weighed a 1.7m one you can have an opinion.

Lot of jewfish are caught by regular jewfishers who fish for the table and don't give a shit about trophies and winning comps, aren't into or interested in comp fishing and so never get recorded. My best jewfish was > 6 ft long 86 pound . I caught on Nobbys Wall, I was alone (as is often the case fishing there overnight) and I had to land it myself using my long gaff.

Holy shit... I know this location (roughly) I have been fishing it for many of years and not once seen a jewfish come out of it. hahaha, I guess it comes down to if you know how to target them you'll get them, I've lost some big stuff there, so could have been a jewfish, but will never know. I was fighting something BIG off corinella Pier on Tuesday 26th, and after 10 minutes fighting it, it spat my hook, I know for a fact it wasn't a ray, so it was either a good size shark, or possibly a big jewfish. :'(

BigFishChannel fair enough but, I really hardly ever use bait, catch and release is extremely important and that fish WAS a big breeder. You have so much success and keeping that fish was not good for anybody’s benefit except for the three of you I’m guessing, just think about it next time. And that’s just being selfish saying that I don’t have the right to put hooks in a bait just because I support and promote catch and release.

Orlando’s Fishing! mate they release very bad i used to live on the brisbane river and we would find them floating all the time from catch and release i now keep the big ones every time for this reason plus there good chew. but in saying that i wont even target the big ones unless im prepared to go to the effort of processing a fish that big. this is also the rule for my boat if u come out with me to target big jew u better be ready for the hard work that comes after u get ur pretty picture,,, trust me after a big fish like this u get adrenal dump and last thing u want to do is process a fucking 20+kg fish would love to just throw it back in the water, but the truth is they dont do well and die, so keeping them is the right move

Great sporting effort, totally legal and totally awesome. Well done.
@Wastingtime6896 жыл бұрын
seagrunter01 there is actual evidence to indicate that larger females contribute to the population more than smaller females. The ratio of survival of larvae is skewed such that more eggs produced by bigger fish does not explain it.
