Young Justice: Invasion is an incredibly ambitious season of television, and that massive ambition pays off. With loads of compelling new characters and deeper explorations of existing characters, season two of Young Justice multiplied the scale of the first season while staying true to its core focus on its characters. What I’m trying to say is that the show is really good.

The only problem I have with the time jump is how it breezes past some big comic book moments that would be utilized later. - We don't see the reveal of Kal'dur's heritage - We aren't introduced to Jason Todd - We don't see the relationship between Red Arrow and Cheshire develop While the show does a great job at letting the audience figure it out without exposition (for the most part), it still leaves the weight of the moments lacking in exchange for shock value mixed with easter eggs for comic book fans to spot. Imagine if a spider-man show introduced Peter and Gwen getting together, then the next season had a time jump that breezes past Gwens death in the comics. It doesn't have the same narrative flow as watching the actual events develop. Maybe a one-year time jump would work for the characters, but I do understand that they wanted to get into the cliffhangers left off from the first season, and the time jump makes it clear these big events aren't back to back to back for the characters.

Something I find interesting that isn't really mentioned is how Beast Boy is tied to M'gann's arc in Season 2. While it's not seen everywhere, I think the best example is when she breaks Kaldur's mind. She becomes visually distraught, re-thinking her entire attitude and how she's been extremely harsh on the bad guys... as Beast Boy cheers her own for defeating the bad guy. Something I think could've been added on into this if the season had time would be M'gann's actions having a negative effect on Beast Boy. He idolizes M'gann and maybe a scene or two where he goes too far while fighting the villains because he's seen M'gann do the exact same stuff would be interesting to see.

I just want to say that you hit the nail on the fucking head, and helped me truly realize why this is my favorite season of Young Justice. I always knew that this was my favorite season, but I didn't exactly know why until now. I love the concept of this being the season without mentors. We see our former sidekicks fall into a morality trap, with no adults there to tell them right from wrong. They, of course, do discover the line between the two, but it's fascinating to see them struggle. All this to say, good work, dude.

The funny thing, is Aqualad’s and Beast Boy’s story aren’t told in the series, you have to dig into outside material in order to discover what happened to both. Not to mention that one of these tie-ins is a video game.

I LOVE this show, and this video and this video series is a great tribute to it. I personally prefer the first season as it felt more small scale and character focused. This season is amazing as well though even though I wish some of the newer characters (namely Tim drake) got more development, it's still great Great video can't wait to see the finale :-)

Thank you! I’m honestly not sure whether I like season one or two better, as they’re both really close in quality in my opinion. I think there’s definitely something to be said for the larger scope of season two being, despite its benefits. somewhat detrimental, but that’s really a conversation for the video on season three.

Season two made alot of bold choices I'm not a huge fan of time jumps especially for a shows season two but they handled it pretty gracefully i just wish we got some more in between

I used to feel nothing for this season apart from Artemis' story, even after rewatching the show and also watching it for the first time fully and in order in 2017, but thankfully I ended up really liking it upon watching reactions on KZfaq. It's like season 1 but lacking the amazing character development that season 1 had, but at least it has that great overarching plot and some awesome moments and the episodes are all great like in season 1. Now I enjoy this season almost as much as season 1, I'd give it a 9/10. And overall, I love both seasons. The third one is the one that I barely enjoy, it's just ok.

Season 2 actually balanced really well the huge cast, even WonderGirl and BeastBoy had great moments...season 3, unfortunately, didn't manage to balance the newer characters, because there were too many new ones. Tim, Orphan, Spoiler,...

@@criticalrants you actually missed one, Mal Duncan as Guardian. Only because you mentioned Bumblebee, which both actually appeared in season 1. At the same time this video was nice. You plan on doing a season 3 review

Season 2 was my favorite,I'm a bit salt artemis wasn't in it as much as I like but I love it, season 3 was ok I wish they ketp artemis as tigress a secret from the viewer tell the end

I loved season 1 of the show for the character arcs and themes, but season 2 is my favorite for the story itself. I wish we spent a little more time with some of the newer younger heroes, but season 2 is fantastic.

Im all for writers following through on their deaths and leaving characters to deal with the consequences BUT.. I want Wally to come back so bad. Many theories saying he's simply trapped in the speeforce, hopefully season 4 breaks him out

Season 2 was near perfect… The 5 year time jump threw me off at first but not knowing and basically relearning these characters again was refreshing. Also I personally don’t need an origin story of night wing or the new robin… as someone who has watched JL- JLU, and all the movies I used a piece of my own DC history to fill in the whole and it made the experience so fulfilling… onto S3.

Season 1 was def the most well rounded in just how consistently goated it is but idk man something about seeing all the same characters from the previous season with a handful of new ones really just threw my nerd mind into a frenzy. obv it would’ve been dope to see where all the new characters came from but as a comic book fan I don’t really need that but just seeing how they would’ve handled it would’ve been dope. if they had just stuck with the cast and continued to expand the lore it would’ve been 10x better than season 3

My only problem with young justice invasion is that it doesn't have any consequences for it's characters Most especially for Miss Martian and Nightwing All we get is them expressing they're guilt to one another and saying sorry... Which is really cheap and boring I think the writters probably didn't have the time to fully redeem them and yeah maybe but then we have scenes where it's almost like the writters think what they are doing is good especially for nightwing who gets praised for his actions and being a good leader when he really wasn't Nightwing was a pretty terrible leader this season and most of the problems that occurred to his team where he's fault for keeping them out of the loop

I don't know why people are so bothered with the time skip. It's fine for me. We don't need to know every single stories. Besides, the show gives us great delivery through dialog and revelation in filling the gap of what happened during those time skip. So why bother?

Honestly the timeskip was a mistake. Season 2 started with an over bloated cast that we barely know, and that cast grow in the following seasons. I should have to read comic books to understand what is going on, who are these characters, who died, and so forth.

Ngl never really like the time jump thing. I think the second season would have been better if the continue right from season 1. There was so much change and it just felt so different from season 1.

The thing about the time jump is that it allows for interesting, new character developments. Miss Martian's arc in season 2 wouldn't make sense without the time jump. Most arcs were completed at the end of season 1, so if the second season followed immediately after, plunging them into new character arcs would be unnatural and make it obvious that it's a world made for a a series consisting of seasons. Plus, the time jump can serve as a form of "show, don't tell". By having Miss Martian's standard form be the bald and white form she takes in season 3, it shows us that, between seasons, she grew to fully embrace her white Martian side. This is not a character development we necessarily need to see fully play out, since it would largely be repetition of some of season 1's content. But with the time jump, the show allows us to figure it out on our own so that it can spend its time on other things.
