I was at that concert, I was 17 years old. As I was walking home after, I was still in a daze, my ears ringing and realizing I had just been part of one of the greatest Live show ever made... A few years later, I was living in Germany and I attended the LiveAid concert, witnessing Queen perform the greatest 20 minutes ever done. I still have part of my ticket framed on my wall and I 'll keep it forever. What an amazing singer, what an amazing band. And remember: no auto tune, no electronics, just pure, raw talent. I was so lucky to grow up listening to these amazing bands that had real singers and real musicians !!!

Their performance at Live Aid in 1985 is legendary. You can actually see the sound waves going back and forth from the stage to the back of the stadium at one point (I think it's during We will Rock You). Freddie Mercury gives a textbook performance on how to be a legendary front-man, he totally crushes it (as does the rest of the band). Great reaction!

Wonderful review. Queen and Freddie Mercury are one of the all time greats. When I was a young lad their albums A Night at the Opera and A Day at the Races changed my life musically. As a young teenager, I never heard anything like that before and I knew I wanted to play music because of that. And over forty years later, I'm still playing guitar. RIP Freddie. It was so wonderful to see a young person enjoying the music of my youth! The seventies was a great time to be young and alive, in many ways I think we lived life with innocent reckless abandon, young people today truly have no idea what total freedom and anonymously we lived. A bad experience didn't follow us like a dark cloud. One simply put a period at the end of a bad experience and moved on😢 not so today😢

You're only 20. I'm so happy you found this amazing band. Freddie was just the best performer ever. Never forget Brian on guitar and did those astounding guitar solos. Roger on Drums and John on bass. I was there in the 80s and well put it this way. When Freddie died, I cried for days. Brian is overlooked as an amazing guitarist. Queen were made up of 4 members. All were outstanding.

Great reaction. I really like Freddie's vocal slides, they're so evenly done, it seems like he doesn't struggle with any particular note or range or use much head voice. It sounds like it's all from the diaphragm. What's funny watching this is, in any other band Roger Taylor would probably be the lead singer, or one of them, but Freddie is such a force of nature, he is THE front man. They are a real well-balanced band too, not overly guitar or bass driven, or beat happy, they're all working together and creating moments of intensity as well as fragility, versus having some sort of static backing track that doesn't go anywhere. Great songwriting.

He could also, and maybe you already know this, but sing opera. He had seen Montserrat Caballé and adored her, wanted to collaborate with her so sent her a demo (which I will put the link here) to see if she would be willing to do an album with him. After she heard it the album "Barcelona" came to life :) His demo is also on the album, but on the album Montserrat took the high notes and Freddy went lower, however in the demo, all the notes were him. In the demo there are no words just notes, but words were created for the album. The demo is like listening to an angel sing. Watching the two perform, you could see how much they truly adored one another, their chemistry was unreal. Demo: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mbZlpZynsL2lZ3U.html

I saw Queen 1982 at the Summit in Houston. I was just 14. It cost less than $15 for decent seats. It was the first time I saw him with his famous stasche and tank top. I didn't know Freddie would become iconic. Kids at school made fun of my awesome Hot Space t-shirt and told me I was gay. That was the level of stupidity in Texas highschools at that time.

You should check out Levoln Helm of The Band singing live while playing the drums. I'm glad you called out Roger's backing vocals, he always did a great job. I had this concert on vhs when I was a young child in the 80's and watched it constantly, this song was the highlight but the whole show is fantastic.

Hello Aaliyah,Great group and song. I may have heard them first in the 1970s and of course they were magnificent. When Bohemian Rhapsody released in 1975 I thought they were Amazing. When we all lost Freddie in 1991 it was a sad time and we lost a great Singer, Pianist, writer and showman RIP

hey Aaliyah if you feel like crying, check out "You Take my Breath Away" by Queen (featuring the incomparable Freddie Mercury) but be sure to use the live "Hyde Park" version and not the studio version, have a good day!

Young lady: In my very humble opinion I'd add just a simple question to your impecable analisys which is from which planet came each guy of Queen? God bless you and keep singing!

Nice reaction, I love the live performances from back then that can't be auto tuned. It gave singers so much creative freedom to improvise and just go off the rail. It's sad what auto tune has done to vocals in the last 20 years, very sad.

Great reaction, Aaliyah, I really enjoyed watching this one! For a great example of Roger Taylor hitting the high notes you should try reacting to Queen doing "In The Lap of the Gods". The studio version might work best. And for a great live performance to rival this one I would suggest "White Queen" from the Odeon Hammersmith, featuring an amazing back and forth between guitar and piano!!

I saw Queen in Portland, Maine 1977 on the " News of The World Tour. I wish I could have seen them some years earlier when they played at the Portland Exposition with Mahogany Rush and I believe Kansas. Probably 1973 or 74, back then they were little known.

In 1997 the Spanish opera singer Montserrat Caballé released album called Friends For Life. One of the songs in tribute to Freddie Mercury was the version for “Bohemian Rhapsody” that she sung with Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden.
