fr i cant believe im saying this but did he have a redemption arc? like we got his backstory and everything and all the stuff at the initiation you can kinda see why he is the way he is. not that im excusing his actions in anyway i still think what he did was despicable.

malte just did such a good job portraying him, holy shit i didn't expect to actually feel sorry for him

A lot of people in the fandom (including myself) don’t particularly like August 😅 I did feel bad for August in season 3, I can almost sense that he wants to change. I was just curious to what makes him your favourite character, maybe it’ll change my point of view that I have on August 🤷‍♀️

@Miss.Simone-Smiles Yeah, I'm aware of that. I think though that liking a character doesn't always have to be about liking the actions the character takes. Sometimes people assume that I agree with his actions when they find out he's my favorite. I'm not the only one who has him as a favorite either, haha. I find his backstory interesting. He's a sidelined person in the royal family to start with, which makes me intrigued. His dad has committed suicide and he's clearly not coping well. He's developed what's pretty obviously an eating disorder, he's become addicted to drugs to cope with the stress of trying to live up to his dad's image and the classist society he's a part of. He's also got the added on grief of the loss of Erik. Then his cousin comes around, and I can imagine that must be tough. He's not even a real royal and is trying so hard to follow the rules of the society he's been placed in, and his young cousin arrives and just refuses to play by the rules. He sees what to him must be a big privilege, Wille being crown prince, being squandered (I dont necessarily agree). And that's just season one! All of that makes him super interesting to me. Plus, he winds up doing something completely messed up, and I'm someone who likes to explore why that kind of thing happens. During the first episode, when he first appeared, all I knew about the show was that a prince falls in love with another student who is a different class. I thought for sure August would walk in on them kissing and tell all the students or something. He totally outed them, but it was how he did it that subverted my expectations and made me go, "okay this is different. This one's gonna be my fave" Also, in season two, I think he becomes even more interesting when he finds himself having romantic feelings for Sara. New layer to the character. Also, like I mentioned, Malte is just a superb actor. His ability to emote is so so good! And that makes me like the character even more. He's do haughty and full of himself, but there are times when we see him stressed, anxious, panicked, afraid, angry, in love. I really like how he portrays all of them, especially with this character.

@@Fluffymonkeyem Ah! Yes! I too believe August is a character that makes the show intriguing. It didn’t cross my mind that having a favourite character means that you have to agree with that characters motives and actions. August isn’t my personal favourite character, but he is certainly the character that makes me want to keep watching. (except for the romance between Wilhelm and Simone of course!) He’s made some poor choices, but without those choices the show wouldn’t be the same. As you stated, his backstory is very full on, and there’s a lot of strings attached. I believe that August is a very important character to the show, and I definitely understand why people, such as yourself, find him somewhat fascinating, making him your favourite character.

There is a trick to get English subtitles but it only works on Microsoft edge. Load up the page with the show. Select the option on the browser to translate swedish to English.
