Nice reaction! If you listen to the original of this song, you will be surprised to hear that Su sings it differently than the original. Even though Su is still a child, I feel that she has interpreted this song in her own way and made it sound like her own original song. Even though she doesn't have much in the way of singing technique yet, she has the ability to move people, and I feel that is the most wonderful thing about her.

I think parts of this interview in 2014 says a lot about what Suzuka/Su-metal and her singing: Q: What people want to know about Su-metal as a vocalist would be like “What kind of training does she do?”, or “Is there any special exercise for singing at home?” Many would be very interested in the hidden side of your singing they watch and listen to. Do you have any special training? Su: Nothing special…really nothing. I do muscle training and stretching …I think I don’t have anything special for singing. Of course I do ordinary voice exercise, though not everyday… oh, I like to go to karaoke by myself. Q: You like to go by yourself, not with your friends? Su: I love karaoke by myself! Q: Is that because you can get into your own world with it, not having fun with your friends? Su: That would be right…. and I feel sorry if I sing songs others don’t know. So I sing those songs alone. And it’s O.K. to sing poorly with nobody been there… and I can get into my own world, I get into the roll singing a song, not only Babymetal songs. Q: So it helps refreshing yourself. Su: Yes. Q: Do you sing Babymetal songs at karaoke? Su: No (laugh). It makes me feel kinda strange. There’s something unsettling. If I sing a Babymetal song there, it would feel different from what I usually do. Q: To my impression, you have a great aura in the costumes. Does it affect your feelings to wear Babymetal costumes? Su: I’ don’t realize the instant I turn myself on. Some says “You’re different when you put on makeup”. Su was admitted to Actors School Hiroshima (ASH) in 2006 at eight years old, after passing the audition. She was awarded a scholarship for her first year. Her older sister Himeka (later an original member of the idol group Nogizaka46) got in on the next round. This footage of a 10 year old Su at ASH is from 2008, the same year she started with Karen Girl's. The song was 'Asu e no Tobira' (The Door to Tomorrow) originated by the Pop group I Wish. I love that she still has some of the same hand gestures in her BABYMETAL solo songs. : )

If this is around age 10, then it would be the same time as Karen Girl's. And speaking of Karen Girl's, what impressed me most was their appearance on a children's TV show. They performed live, no lip-sync, complete with the dance routine. While there were some minor breath issues, they stayed on pitch, on time, and in sync.

The producer of Babymetal, Koba, invited her to his project for a reason. He noticed her voice, and that is what prompted him to create Babymetal. It's not easy to find a vocalist for heavy metal performances among girls aged 11-13 :) So she's not just good. Babymetal itself owes its existence to her. Yes, Moa and Yui are cool dancers, but without a powerful vocalist, Koba would not have succeeded. This is not the kind of project where you can take anyone and then fix it on the computer.

Little thin and flat notes here and there, but the power and projection was already there in her voice. No wonder that Koba did choose her to be a front woman of a metal band.

If you look carefully you can still see the mole on Su's face today although it is smaller and is the same color as the rest of her complexion. I am not sure if they did anything surgical or it is just makeup. She also had her teeth fixed when she was around 18 or so.

I do believe Babymetal's logo contains references to the three original members. The wings are for Su and are a reference to Karen Girls, the heart in the first B is for Moa, and the skull is for Yui. Not sure why Yui gets a skull.
