A note to the haters: the use of the aircraft is donated by one of her sponsors. Her financial plan is successful enough that she is supporting charities like girls who code. You can check her web page for more information. There are plenty of truly horrible people and organizations. If you must troll and hate, can’t you focus on them?

Sorry, there is nothing special about it: it looks like some parents are fulfilling own dreams risking with their child: bought/rented her a plane, planned her a route, also following her all the way. There must be a “flight control center” where her parents sit… What is the next “record” ? A 13-year old flies across the world? When you have the money, now days, all you have to do to perform such a flight is: rent/buy the plane (200 EUR/hour), plan the route (there are companies for that), take off, fly the GPS, land. She will need some 300 hours to complete the route, so 60000 EUR + flight following, airport charges, organization, hotels, let it be 200 000 EUR at the end. So, this is not about skills, but only about money.

I just say that it is irresponsible to cheer up a youngster to perform a dangerous flight in an ultralight airplane with many dangerous legs. You literally use her as a flying billboard, covered with stickers of all sponsors: This is purely about money, media coverage and ego-feeding. She is not doing anything heroic, not contributing to science. Just burning 5 tons of gasoline over the planet with 98% probability to come home safe. BTW: it looks like you would like to decide what others can say or not. Maybe you sent her to this "unique" trip? I hope she understands clearly what she is doing. (I actually do not care). Rutherford and her family are free to do as they please, but... trying to pass off someone pursing her hobby as encouragement for women to go into STEM fields seems ridiculous. Nothing wrong with how she spends her free time, but I raise an eyebrow when one performs something socially inconsequential and says, "yeah I'm doing this for others." I'm sure there are better ways for a young & talented pilot to help people if she so desired. Regardless, good luck to Rutherford.
