Actually that is not his last kit that was his kit from the R 30 tour. Yes all the hardware was gold plated. His last kits were two acoustic kits from the R 40 tour. The first one was a DW kit set up as he played since test for echo and the second kit was another DW kit with double bass it was made as a replica of when he first started with Rush and used a Slingerland kit he called “Chromy” His last modern kit was given to a guy at DW by Neil himself. The guy helped design and build Neil’s kits. There is a vid on KZfaq showing it in the guys office at DW. I do not know where the Chromy replica is.

U noticed the electric drum set mixed in with the rest of the kit . The horns at the end of the piece were played by him . That's how he got the timing so perfect. I was amazed when I learned that. There is a better performance of this solo I think it was a talk show that had a house band and he blew everyone away

In 2008, I worked for a liquor store in Indy. A customer came in who said he was down from Deer Creek Amphitheater to buy bottles for the after party. Rush was playing that night. I helped him pick six bottles of old Bordeaux and whiskey for $1600 for Neil and Geddy. After he paid, he gave me six tickets! I got permission to leave work early, and a buddy and I raced up there to catch the 2nd set. The tickets were great-- row 6 center-- but we had no way to get to them because of the crush of people down there. Before I left the store to get to the show, I told this story to a guy who said his BFF was a huge fan who couldn't afford tix. I didn't need all six tickets so I gave him a couple. His face lit up, and you should have seen the way he raced out of there to get his friend (knowing the show had already started). I'm a Rush fan, but not a super fan, so a month or so later, I decided to throw away the program that had been in my car. I came in to work, and threw it in the trash by one of the work stations. Later in the day, I met an Italian customer. I think I found reason to tell him this story, and he said he was a big fan. I slowly bent over and pulled the program out of the trash and gave it to him. He was flabbergasted because how weird must that have been for him?!

They are all great. If you are to put Neil at the top it would be because he is not just a drummer but a percussionist. John Bonham is my favorite composer of all time drummer, Buddy Rich is the best technically, Moon is the improviser and entertainer on it. However Neil is very intentional with every hit he places on his massive kit. One not mentioned by you is Ginger Baker who is great at keeping steady rhythm. The last one that needs a mention is Danny Carvey who is the fastest and extremely skilled. So to me the winner is a tie both Bonham and Peart. 👍

He did ALL the practicing! I saw him 9 times live (including the tour this solo was recorded, not this show but the same tour), and he never disappointed! He was constantly in search of ways to be better than he was. So much so that, at one point, he completely broke down his style, and rebuilt it from the ground up. This was when his peers were touting him as the best in the business, he found a way to reinvent himself in a way that allowed him to far supersede everyone's expectations.

This solo started from Neil’s back kit after they played mystic rythmes, which his back kit includes electric drums and no thimbles. Then Neil hits that electric percussion board to turn the drum kit back to the front acoustic set of drums and all his thimbles, that electric percussion board is his master godsend for his control of the kit in general.

It's pretty subtle and I've not mentioned it before, someone pointed out Neil had a cold or something and felt this wasn't a very good performance but if you've heard this solo before there's a couple times he briefly breaks to (seemingly) catch himself and get back on track. A few quick time changes to pace better, a couple trips here or there out of normal, and some rechecks on accents to readjust and keep on plugging on. It's the mark of a true professional.

What really makes and gives him the title GOAT, isn’t so much his talent or ability but his character, humbleness and acknowledgement of respect he pays to ‘HIS’ mentors and inspiration. But yeah he is the most important figure in the drum world with the tightest chops, rhythmic beats, work ethic and possibly longest active and material producing percussionist of this modern age. Did I mention he does this within the course of a nearly three hour concert with some songs more demanding than parts of the solo AND he writes the lyrics TOO. Top notch.🥁🥁🥁🥇🇨🇦🎼🤘🖖✌️

Actually Geddy Lee (bass, vocals) and Alex Lifeson (guitarist) gave him that nickname after noting his intellect and demeanor were similar to the Professor (Russell Johnson) on Gilligan's Island, a moniker Peart said 'not an insult, but not exactly cool either!" I was privileged to have seen them live 19 times and while I still get teary eyed knowing such beautiful lyrics and incredible music will never be written again I'm so grateful to have been along for the ride!
