He was always sure that they were judging him as being "not good enough", when the truth was that his self esteem was in the gutter. My family don't judge people by what they have, and it's not like any of them are rolling in it. My you best sister and her husband had a hot tub in the backyard of one of their homes, and he was acting like they were pretentious millionaires lording it over the rest of us. My brother-in-law bought it off of FB Marketplace. 😂 The "what if they weren't a relative" questions drove me nuts. I was sick of telling him that if they weren't relatives I probably wouldn't know them at all. I certainly wouldn't be sitting in their hot tub, or swimming in their pool, or hanging out at their cottage.

It's only when you start *acting* like this guy and treating other people poorly or sulking because of something as absurd as this that there's something to feel guilty or worried about. You can even talk about these thoughts with your partner; just make sure it's something they're okay with talking about first.
