To thrive, your lawn needs space, if your lawn is crowded with dead organic matter then the best way to free up some space in your lawn is to groom and we do with a grooming attachment, today I use the Allett scarifying attachment as really want to make in roads into the dead and rotting leaves that will have started to build up on the surface.

How often can you put iron sulphate on the lawn just for a green up not to kill moss? Is there a specific amount per a yet or month?

I bought a 2nd hand Atco Balmoral 20sk on eBay this year, my first cylinder mower. There are 2 or 3 people specialising in refurbishing and selling them. Lots of positive feedback for these sellers. Got a good deal and the results I’m getting are great

Just try and move thegoalposts if any and limit to much damage in one area a feed too help recovery

Did you scarify on “S”? Or a higher number? I’m curious what you normally set the Allett to for regular scarifying…?

Hi Dan, new to your channel, lawns looks fantastic. Out of all of the tips you give, for an absolute beginner, and on a budget. What would be the best one tip to give For the best result. I have used Proctor moss kill and Jack's magic, but am struggling with the seeds growing! 👍

Best tip is use everything i use then you cant go wrong, i dont know what seed u have used, what proctor moss kill is etc etc, everything i use is my own range now designed for everyone

Just gotta spray um head to your local garden centre and pick a lawn one up either weedol or vitax or roundup for lawns

Going to be helping my brother fix up his back garden. New build, 5yrs, with a layer of sod over clay soil. Tends to have drainage issues and gets squelchy in prolonged rain. Other than getting a tiller and digging it up and improving with root zone / compost, is there anything we can do with the existing lawn to help improve the soil a bit - eg would regular seaweed applications help? - or just go scarifying, core aerating (manually, ouch) and then overseed / compost route?

Hi Dan, what causes necrotic growth? Too thick grass, too long grass, not enough sunlight, too damp? If you had a lot of necrotic growth and after grooming you had thin areas. Would you overseed and top dress, just over seed or will it come back and thicken again on its own? Thanks Luke.

It is good stuff, but very expensive including delivery. I would say too expensive for the home owner, Dan can pass on the cost to his client.

If you’re doing this little and often you have to be on S or it doesn’t bring anything out and it’s a waste of time

There’s scarifying and there’s power raking. The ‘scarifying’ cartridge is a power rake. It’ll be safe enough if the turf is settled and doesn’t lift up if you tug at it. Maybe start on setting 1 and work your way down to S but I wouldn’t use the dethatcher cartridge which is properly scarifying. The rake cartridge in this video is perfectly safe.

Wait a second!? I see stripped lawns on you tube all the time, and they always says "mow a different direction every time". So I do, but I never end up with really good stripes, like yours, and I always thought it was maybe my mower or grass type or height of cut. But it sounded/looked like, other than when grooming, you mow the same pattern every time. Is that correct? If so, should I do that for a whole season, or just a month at a time, or what?
