This is the best kind of music, a simple, basic song of family and love.

T. Michael Coleman says it is definitely "lone" journey and to me that is exactly what Doc says here in his opening.

I see this error in quite a few titles in the videos of this song. It is" Lone Journey", not long journey. listen to Doc Watson as he calls the title. Also check the lyrics which are posted on the internet. The song refers to one of them going to heaven alone, not the two together, therefore, a lone journey.

Rosa Lee was Doc's wife, not his daughter.

Lovely tune, for sure. The title is actually 'lone. Rather than 'long.'

Ben Pollak Let me add that I'm not trying to be argumentative. It was really interesting and surprising to me to hear Jim say it. Not sure what his source was, but he was pretty certain of it.

+hddvt +57tele strange that everyone else (like alison krauss, robert plant, emmylou harris and even Smithsonian Folkways [www.folkways.si.edu/the-doc-watson-family/your-long-journey/american-folk-old-time/music/track/smithsonian] for example) seems to think its Your Long Journey?

+Ben Pollak people can make mistakes in their interpretations, or change things on purpose, but if you just listen to the song and what the man is saying you will find that in fact he is talking about a lone journey without his loved one after they have died.

The following link is a recording sung in duet by Doc & Rosa Lee (who co-wrote it together), and has only recently been posted. Thought I'd put it here for anyone who missed it: watch?v=lLEm_cmS-_k -- insert this after youtube's address (their terms of service don't allow URLs to be posted in comments)
