Oh, that's really cool. I never expect to see the game's devs in the comments whenever he covers their games. I'm glad I heard about this game. I would love to see a continuation of this idea with more characters. Are there any plans to continue or add to it? Maybe you have something new in development?

One of the coolest things in YOMIH singleplayer is that you have control over both players, meaning you can construct even cooler fight scenes with crazy chains of clashes, combos and back and forth fisticuffs.

Honestly, I'd love to see the tools Yomi Hustle has brought into a fighting game's training mode. For something like an Indie fighter where people are probably not going to invest the same level of commitment to compared to a more mainstream fighter, letting people discover combos and optimize quickly is healthy for the game. Bonus, If we're looking for casual appeal (which I do agree we need more of), a good place to start would be lowering the barrier to entry for people to participate in the discussion about a character in a game, and letting people with 0 execution still imagine new combo routes for a character sounds like a great idea.
@AnthanKrufix
@AnthanKrufix Жыл бұрын
There's something magical about genuinely controlling both characters to the most effective way possible. Instead of going for the longest coolest combo with one character while the other one sandbags and DIs badly to allow it to happen, having the other character fighting back and doing the best answer to the moves being thrown at them. You learn some really freaky move interactions from it. As well as finding setups which are genuinely hard to escape from.
@NFZKAZE

literally the first thing i did to learn the game from scratch. me (cowboy) vs wizard (played as cheesy and hard as possible and lowkey I thought I was going to lose as the cowboy because as wizard its so easy to spam long range stuff, but if you teleport juuuuust right with cowboy, you can dodge so many wizard homing lighting bombs that you can win!

Toribash is cool, but I can 100% understand why it never took off outside of it's community. Yomi Hustle has the advantage of a much lower barrier to entry: since all the moves are pre-baked and ready to be strung together, anyone can kinda just pick it up and do something that looks kinda cool. Not so much with Toribash.

I'm like 90% sure "yomi" in Japanese is the word for something like the art of preempting an opponent's move in combat (like Yomi counter in Sirlin's Fantasy Strike based entirely on the hardest of hard reads) and so the full title of "Hustle" and it's nickname were anything but an accident.

Haven't finished the whole video, but I fully agree on the single player segment. My brother and I play fighting games but he was never fully interested in the whole neutral, pressure, blockstrings, mixups, whatever... but all he wanted was to see a cool fight. Yomi hustle's single player mode is his most played mode by far in every fighting game I've played with him. It just makes me wish that every other fighting game now has this feature. Maybe call it "Cinematic mode" where like in Yomi hustle, choreograph an entire fight. It'd allow us to create our own cool fight scenes, allow people to see what truly is possible for each character when executed frame perfectly, lab combos without the worry of input error, and honestly, makes cool free gameplay trailers.

The thing I always loved the most about fighting games (and any game that has a roster of characters to pick from) is Creative Expression. Fighting games as a competition, by default has to find the best and most efficient way to win usually forsaking creativity in favor of efficiency. Single Player YOMIHustle is a Creative Expression canvas. Multiplayer YOMIHustle is an anime fight where you see time the way anime characters see it (Jotaro's Stand active at all times, essentially) - AND you get to see it in real time as a consolation for getting your ass handed to you in the flashiest way possible.

And the usually only play shooters.

In Devil May Cry terms, all the fights combined into one ranking. I'm gonna give it a total of "B - badass" the ranking would be higher but there were a lot of moves repeating and hits taken. Obviously I keed, it looked pretty damn cool. The last two or three fights were the bees knees, so many badass attack cancels(dunno the proper terminology, but it's where you both attack at the same time, and take no damage)

I was playing this game for about a month during its itchio era and honestly loved the multiplayer. I was one of those people that would just throw a block in the middle of a combo string when I knew the burst was coming or just on round start to make them waste their resources on cancels and their disconnects filled me with joy. Never really dabbled with the single player stuff as DI and scaling changed each link DRAMATICALLY and any player worth their turn timers fucked with that dial every chance they got but these montages always were a fun watch.

I randomly picked this game up on a lark when I saw a classmate messing around on it at school, tried single player, and had zero clue what the hell I was doing; way too much info being thrown at me at once, couldn’t tell how things like DI worked or what some options did, etc. Think I should try the Discord. I think doing something like this for a more traditional fighting game (something like UNIST) would be awesome and likely more approachable.

this could be a great learning tool for the future of fighting games, imagine being able to save your replays in game just like GG or even Smash lets you, and being able to analize different options on certain interactions or even simulate others just to see the outcome of every decision, or being able to lab a combo being assisted by tools just to know if you can do something specific but its very tight or if the game straight doesnt let you. i wish fighting games embrace these kind of things, even slowing down the gameplay or showing frame data, hitboxes and all of that would benefit a lot of the new and medium players, its the thing i dont like of certaing fighting games like KOF even tho its by far my favorite and the one i want to learn, its a really hard entry point because the training mode doesnt let you learn nothing and gives you zero feedback nor tools.

@lemmingrad
@lemmingrad Жыл бұрын
The term Yomi comes from the idea that you know and feel deeply and subconciously what your opponent is gonna do that is hard to put into words, so some describe it as coming from the spirit world. Sun Tzu’s the Art of War briefly covers this idea. David Sirlin, who’s big start to fame working on Street Fighter 2 Turbo HDRemix, made a card game called Yomi based on that idea. He’s also a bit of a dick who thinks very highly of himself and causes big drama with his offkilter ideas and opinions. I used to collect his card and boardgames up until Codex, his games are mechanically deep, but when he decided to restructure how his online community worked, I stopped paying attention to him since. That he was responsible for the name change is not surprising to me.
