@Rick O'Shea Yeah, I tried that and I'm swinging so bad right now that I got skin burn where the glove would wear out! Yep. that's a little much... But it's more than a grip problem at this point. Got on a friend's trackman and I had some swings in excess of 20deg in-to-out!!!! I'll be camping at the range! :D

Great insight to the grip I’ve never heard before, thanks. You mentioned the right thumb and forefinger stitching together to create support. Should you do the same stitching with the left thumb and forefinger and then take your left hand grip in the fingers?
@AthleticMotionGolf
@AthleticMotionGolf 5 жыл бұрын
No sir, those typically won't be stitched together unless maybe you go with a really "short" left thumb grip - but typically no.

Thanks for the video. Great explanation so no need for the close up. What about around the green? For me a tighter grip gets me tense and I tend to chunk. Does shorter shots mean lighter grips?more feel shots
@AthleticMotionGolf
@AthleticMotionGolf 5 жыл бұрын
I think so, Joseph. There are far fewer forces being put on the golfer from the club in those type shots so more feel and touch can be had from a lighter pressure.

I keep my hands connected to each other and to the grip all the way until the release at which point the butt comes off my left heel pad. I am tearing lots of gloves due to the club grip sliding up and then off the heel pad. Is this a sign of a low flip?

New subscriber comment/question: Assume a good sound neutral grip at setup , what's the likely cause of right hand (palm only) separating slightly off the left thumb near or at top of backswing ? Was hoping to find an answer in this video to this issue. At the top, the club is soundly in the left hand/fingers but the right palm will separate 1/2" to 1" off the left thumb/hand though the club still in right fingers/thumb. The right palm pad eventually reconnects to left hand as I move into/during the downswing.
@AthleticMotionGolf
@AthleticMotionGolf 4 жыл бұрын
that happens a lot, Gary, and is almost always an indication of overswinging and/or club speeding up too much into the top of the swing. You definitely don't want those hands coming apart.

Ok so you know someone was going to throw this in....Shane Lowry's right hand is literally off of the club, save his thumb and forefinger, through the impact interval. He is joined by Fred Couples and Vijay and those are just the players I know about..Thoughts? Good drill, especially the last one. I've been really becoming aware of my hands, the pressure, contact, etc. It really helps to develop consistency.
@AthleticMotionGolf

Phil does something similar, Sneds does it with his thumb and forefinger in the backswing... there are a few examples of outlier grips that have been very successful - no question. BUT😊those guys are also not dealing with the issues we see on a daily basis from less "secure" grips. And that's why we really don't teach outlier elements. For every one of those we can find, we can find an extremely larger number of guys getting it done with more secure grips.

We'd be happy to help with a question about your swing, but for a few reasons, we're not going to make general comments about what another instructor teaches. There are lots of good and bad ideas out there, but we'll only comment on them if they're filtered through an issue or question a golfer is having.

The point you made about holes in the glove is complete BS. The skin is elastic and it moves, and the glove does too, you cannot avoid there being sort of movement where the club and hand meets. Even if you hold it with all your might, there would still be movement between the club grip and that part of your hand. If not, you have incredible small hands and are just able to get your hand and fingers around the grip. Apparently you both have very small hands and short fingers, because when griping it in the fingers like you show in the drill, there is most movement between the club and the heel pad of the hand of all the grips I've tried. If the grip was as thick as a soda can, or something you have to stretch your hand to get it around, then it would be less movement. You will not find any tour pros who don't wear a hole in their glove at that exact point. And I dare you to show your worn out gloves you have been hitting for several hundreds of shots, and say it's not wearing a hole in that spot.
