Thanks for the feedback! Not sure everyone would agree based on my average video watch time but I do like to include explanations (or the "why") for what I am doing. And I plan to continue to use the chapter links for those that wish to skip certain parts. Thanks again for letting me know. The comments really do influence my future videos.

Thanks for everything you do! Longer videos are really not a problem for me, I'm retired and that means I get to sit even longer enjoying the videos, the longer format also helps with learning new stuff, like electronics, Home Assistant, lighting techniques, PCB design, and layout( coming soon?) as well as giving me time to mentally explore how I can use what you are illustrating with the longer videos. Please keep 'em coming!

It all started for me with the tablet charging setup for a HomeAssitant kiosk. I needed a safe charging solution for my Kitchen tablet mounted on a cupboard door. My old Acer did the catastrophic bulge and cracked the display! Now I am a fully integrated HA fan and Addict of your channel! Wow! and Thank You! We have come so far from the old X-10 system!!

Thanks for the comment! I remember reading an article about Bill Gates' home from the late 90's... where a digital badge would identify you and things like music, art and lights would follow you as you moved through the house. Things like this, that seemed so futuristic at the time, are now simple to do with things like Home Assistant and presence detection. It is amazing how far the "smart home" has come in just the last 5 years. It will be really interesting to see how AI could change things even more over the next 5 years. Thanks again for the kind words. They are greatly appreciated.

I'm building my first WLED project right now while watching this video! Repurposing a poorly designed LED fixture I bought off Amazon with a better LED strip and ESP controller.
@ResinChemTech
@ResinChemTech 6 ай бұрын
One of the first WLED project I did was something similar. I had purchased rather expensive LED bar lights (you can see them in the background of most of my recent videos.. and they light up the bottles). But they had limited colors/effects and a remote that often wouldn't work. Once I learned about WLED, I ripped out the LED strips, replaced them with WS2812b and an ESP-based WLED controller. It was a huge improvement. Good luck with your project. Take it from me... your first WLED project probably won't be your last! Thanks for watching and taking a minute away from your project to post a comment.

Thank you for the videos. I added permanent addressable LEDs to my Christmas tree following your video. I didn't do the sound yet, I'll add that next year. Instructions were very easy to follow.

You are very welcome. This was the third year for the same lights/setup on our tree and they are still working great . While I have sound reactivity, the truth is that it really doesn't get used much. Mostly it just runs through a playlist of different WLED effects... but that's enough that people stop their cars in front of the house to watch the tree light show! Thanks for taking a few minutes to share your implementation. I appreciate it!

Thanks... I really appreciate the feedback. I too love to see how some of my projects are implemented by others and hope maybe I can turn this idea into something like a annual video of the most innovative adaptations of my projects. Thanks for watching, taking a few moments to post a comment and providing helpful info for my future videos.

Glad you enjoyed it. There were many more builds and adaptations that have been shared with me, but I had to cherry pick what I felt were some of the best to keep the video at a reasonable length. It's inspiring to see others take my projects and create their own versions. Thanks for watching and taking a moment to leave a comment.

Thanks for the feedback. It is much appreciated and it does impact how I make future videos. And I think all of us who have messed around with DIY electronics have seen the magic smoke a time or two! I could probably fill a barrel with all the parts I've fried over the years. Luckily, most of them are pretty cheap and easily replaced. Thanks again for the comment. Welcome to the channel!

Thanks for your videos man. They have definitely inspired me to start some LED projects when I get the funds for it. Do you run a Discord or Subreddit or just the KZfaq channel and blog?

You are very welcome. The goal of my channel is to try to encourage others to try some DIY projects... and maybe a little home automation. So it makes me happy if I had a small hand in inspiring you to try your hand at an LED project or two. I am currently testing a Resinchem Tech Discord server with a handful of trusted others, but it is not quite ready for general use and I'm not prepared to open it up yet... it's another one of those things (like I mentioned in this video) that I just haven't had time to really dig into it. If or when I get to that point, I'll make a community post and start including my Discord channel in the closing of my videos... so I'm sure you'll be able to find it when it's available! Thanks for watching... and taking a few moments to post a comment. I appreciate it!

I enjoy the detailed contents of your videos and am grateful that you take the time to share them. I built my first esp32 wled controller with your guidance and other esp32 related tinkering. As far as videos, or experiments I would like to know what are the limits of wled on an esp32? When you load a wled controller with a generic esp32 into xLights, it shows up to 8 ports. Is it really capable of driving that many? Or what is the functional limits to the number of LEDs you can drive from a single port? Or, at what point do you require something more that the logic level shifter for the data line? Thank you again for all the knowledge you have shared with us mere mortals. I just picked up an 8 foot florescent light cover to make a couple of hour sound activated lights, but will use the mic you recommend in your curtain build. Okay, enough from me. Have a wonderful 2024!!! Joe

Thanks so much for the feedback and kind words! I could certainly look at doing some sort of 'real world' test, but the WLED web site already provides recommendations/best practices for LED limits with both the ESP8266 and ESP32: kno.wled.ge/features/multi-strip/ There's actually a wealth of information on the WLED site, including dealing with exceptionally long runs between controller and LEDs ( kno.wled.ge/advanced/longdata/ ) and a pretty good section on E1.31 (DMX) including LEDs per universe, ports, etc ( kno.wled.ge/interfaces/e1.31-dmx/ ). In my opinion, while there is a ton of useful information, it is not arranged very well and particular topics may require a lot of clicking around and browsing to find it. And of course, there are 'recommendations' and 'real world' which can be significantly different! I do highly recommend the INMP441 I2S digital mic I used with the LED curtains over the old MAX9814 I used in older videos. The I2S mic is much more responsive with significantly better range. Best of luck with your projects... and as always, don't hesitate to reach out if I can be of any assistance!

Silly question…. Which theme and cards do you use in Home Assistant? I like the ------- title ------ header for each section. Thx!
@ResinChemTech
@ResinChemTech 6 ай бұрын
The theme is just the default theme, but I've modified it a bit to change a few things. I use all sorts of cards, but the most common card that I use is the custom button-card, available via HACS. The title dividers are also a custom HACS component, called text-divider-row (although an older version, as the most recent places a semi-transparent background around the title that I do not care for). My dashboards have been a work-in-progress for many years and are constantly being tweaked and rearranged.

Is there any way to use a diguno or quad for the garage parking? If not is there a pcb that I can use for a esp32?
@ResinChemTech
@ResinChemTech 6 ай бұрын
You could adopt one of the Dig boards... but frankly those are way overkill for what you need for this project. You'd pay $30+ for a Dig board and not take any advantage of its many features when you could spend $4 - $5 for a D1 Mini and shifter. You'd also have to flash my code and replace WLED that comes installed on the Dig boards... and I haven't tested that and can't be sure that it would even work as intended. The WLED firmware that is installed on the Dig boards will not work with this project as it is designed. I don't have a PCB for either the ESP8266 or ESP32 (yet). But it would be a pretty simple design to create one. Currently, the firmware is only written for the ESP8266 (D1 Mini), but going back and adding support for the ESP32 is one of the backlog of projects on my list that I mentioned in this video. Honestly, even the ESP32 is overkill unless you are using bluetooth proxy in Home Assistant. But a number of folks have asked for an ESP32 version. I can't say for sure when I'll get to it, but my code is freely available and you could update the libraries for the ESP32 in your own clone or fork if you don't want to wait on me.
