Years back when I had a 78 K5 Blazer all set up for off-road and camping I had the power welder from wild horses ( I think was the name ) installed and it was AWESOME !!! It was expensive but I got it on a 50/50 Barter , it saved my ass a couple of times when I didn't have replacement U - joints and when my tie-rod busted . I regret letting it go when I sold the K5 and would love to get another one but that 1400 bucks can go along way in other areas right ....

Very helpful! I got mine installed today. Like you said it’s fairly easy install, the only challenge part for me is the red line connection with the fuse box under the steering wheel, for some reason it didn’t get power at first, couldn’t find the reason, then unplugged the fuse and flipped the other direction it worked. Weird, thought either direction would work.

that's why I found a fuse in the engine bay box and wired it in that way. Didn't have to run the red wire into the cab.
@Senki207

Some people use their welders in remote areas. These are "mobile welders" usually mounted to a truck, usually powered by diesel / petrol generators. However, using an inverter and some huge batteries, it is possible to wire a smaller welder (usually stick / flux core) into a dual battery system (less "dual" since they usually use a powerbank made from multiple batteries). Welding on fences / cabins / remote infrastructure that doesn't have power is much easier from a truck modified into a mobile welding station that running idk how many km-s of cord / cable to the site, especially since it can easily be damaged by rocks / wildlife or traffic. Welders draw a lot of amps, so you don't want a live wire touching a puddle or something.

I have looked at several difference options and I can't help but believe using a controller like the Auxbeam is the answer. However I have looked in the engine compartment and I don't really find a place to install the control box around the battery or firewall. Like others have said, I would mount this on a tray so it can sit horizontally away from the fender wall. Also, not too crazy about drilling holes in my dash to mount the switch pad. @BaptismOverland

Absolutely I did. But think about this...there's a ton of wires coming out of this thing. If it's on top of the fuse box, when I need to get to it, I'll have to move the lid AND this box with all the wires. It's just a lot more mess to deal with. I would rather just have it to the side
@BaptismOverland

Also I would rather drill a hole in the rig where it's secure vs mounting it to a plastic lid because the box will be slightly heavy and I don't want it bending the plastic lid of the fuse box. Also if you drill the lid you'll destroy the fuse chart underneath it and I def don't want to do that

Awesome! I run the ApolloInTech in the Jeep and didn't need one there either. The distance fr the Jeep battery to the inside of the vehicle is very short compared to the runner. (I own a 2016 as well)

umm, "who needs a welder" is not something you will be saying if you run challenging trails reguarly with a group of people. I have a Bun portable welder from Sue Bun on FB out of Sacramento and it is nice... but the alternator based welders are a nicer solution to weld on other people's rigs.... you cant weld on your own rig with that setup but still they are very nice. break a control arm mount, shock mount, putman arm, sector shaft, steering box bolts, steel tie rod.... plenty of other situations also..... broken spider gears in an open diff.... lincoln locker them for the trail and then fix it back at home ..... lots of situations

THAT is awesome. That’s the answer I was looking for as I had never seen a rig with a welder on KZfaq. Thanks man!

@BaptismOverland
@BaptismOverland 3 жыл бұрын
It’s not the kind of mod that should. Normally warranties are voided if you’re switching out parts that alter the ride or performance of a vehicle (suspension, brakes, engine, etc). I could be wrong but this is just an add on that if you wanted to, you could easily remove it and the ride quality hasn’t changed
