I think there is a soul, which I see as your ultimate identity as an individual, but I never confused it with my body. I had a hard time accepting my body, at first, because of its limitations. My original sense of myself was that I could go anywhere and do anything, but I had to get used to the limitations of having a body. God breathes his essential spirit into us and separates us from him so we can have a self identity of our own. By God's will we remain separate and have our own consciousness. We are supposed to embody God's spirit, but not his self, as we have our own selves. I think our souls are immaterial, like spirit, but they are not spirits, strictly speaking, as like God's spirit, they are meant to command spirits or relate to spirits. To make us something different enough to relate to spirits, he made us material and mortal.
