I had money taken from a collection agencie from my 2021 tax return... I called the collection agencie..and they said it was from a ticket that I owed since 1993 ...not knowing about the statue of limitations... I agreed to making monthly payments and now its paid off... I said when it's paid off send me a receipt of the debit paid in full and until today they have not sent me nothing...

Quick Question. Lets say debt originated in Ontario and got defaulted and went to Collections while I reside in Ontario. Ontario has a 2 year statue of limitations. If I move to a Different Province at 4 years after the debt was defaulted (lets say Nova Scotia who has a 6 year Statue) what would occur? Can they sue me now because I live in a province with different statue of limitations ? or it has expired when it did at 2 years while I was in Ontario? Also offsetting money from a bank account because I banked with the same institution would counts as a partial payment and reset the clock? or It only counts if you specifically make a payment towards a specific account?

Great question. The claim would need to be filed in NS, so arguably the 6 year statute would apply as that's applicable to the court -- but you could file a defense claiming ON limitations apply ... ultimately it's up to the judge to make a ruling ... I don't believe power of offset counts as an acknowledgement of debt ... you didn't exactly volunteer to make that payment. But again, depends how a judge chooses to rule on it ...

I have a credit card debt from 14 years ago. My ex wife actually ran up all my debt for 2 yrs. And she intercepted the bill. I paid for 10 yrs. I became totally disabled. They had a judgment judgmentdefault judgment
