Years ago, I tried to help a young person I was mentoring years by doing something that experts told you never to do: co-sign a loan. I wanted to help him get a better credit score as well as a reliable new car to get his newborn to doctor appointments. The dealer swapped the signer and co-signer and made me the primary borrower and told me that it was the same and that it will help secure the loan. Because my mentee had bad credit, the dealer lied to the bank and credit issuers that we were related and all sort of other lies. The dealer then told me that they will call the cops on us for trying to make a straw purchase when it was them who swapped the loan application and made him the co-signer! I have excellent credit and didn't need a co-signer nor another car! Typical cliche new car dealer salespeople and sales manager! Honda of Hollywood in California: if you are still owned and operated by the same people, then you should be ashamed of your sales staff. It is not defamation since it actually happened.

Sure. It happens all the time. Be sure you get the Prime Rate which banks advertise in the business pages. You see the car commercials. Go online to their websites. They show you the best rates. Also, the credit union and your local bank. Too much competition to pay high interest

At one of the MB dealerships we worked at, we’d read someone’s desire to have a certain car (especially the certified pre-owns). If they were over the moon with the car, we’d say we got good news and bad news...the good news is we got the loan approved & you’ll be driving off the lot with your new car in about an hour. The bad news is that you don’t qualify for that 1.9% financing we talked about (meanwhile, they did), the bank wants 5.8% for reasons A, B, C, X, Y, Z. They’d be so happy about their new Teutonic POS that they often wouldn’t question why their credit wasn’t perfect.

Depending on the credit bureau the dealership uses, and these bureaus use a different algorithm for auto loans. A risk assessment paying the loan and your relationship with the banks. That is why it is different.

m davis I get the 3 different bureaus. What I don’t get is when I get a score from one of the bureaus, and a half day later at the dealer he gets a very different score from the same bureau.

Go for the one you want and compare the total cost-. Term Out the Door. Taxes, fees, price and finally rate. You always go for the Prime rate even if you have bad credit. You will find on the website or television during news time. You are the buyer. If they can't do, walk out and wait. The phone call is coming. Demand the time could be the factor. Also, these bureaus use different algoriths from FICO, which doesn't disclose how the scoring actually work. The numbers. Think about the inquires which way too many make you look desperate to a lender. Do Not let a.dealership look at five banks, then you go to the next dealership and they do the same. You tell.them.may score is such and such, what rate can you get me? Your score should not be off but a couple points anyway. The term, tier up, is what is good. If your score is above 700, you have good credit meaning the best rate. You can also glace at bankrate.com or your bank or credit union. You do not have to finance at the dealership. Price plus taxes and fees, then rate shop. Don't go by the bs chart they show you.

James, if you join myfico.com you can see what you real scores are. Don't use Creditkarma for your score it's not based on Fico. What you have on myfico is actually what your score is when lenders pull. It can change based on if the lender is a mortgage, auto or credit. So there is no real universal score. Myfico will show you an overall, then you can see it by lender/credit type.

Take Dave Ramsey with a grain of salt. However zero debt is a great place to live for those who can. If you are able to buy a car with cash DON'T TELL THEM UNTIL THE END. Many dealers make more off of getting you the financing then they make off of the car, so never tell them how you are paying until the price is locked in. If they really insist, just walk towards the door. Most will not let you get there, but if they do just go to the next one until you find an dealer willing to work your way.

The way to get a good deal is to find the oldest car on the lot and negotiate for that. Dealers care more about what's on their lot than what's going on in the market in general. That's my two cents on this!

The first one exists under the rules of the latter, in which the big bank (The Fed) allows the little banks to make loans at a rate of 10x's for every dollar they manage in the form of deposits within their own banking system....If you default on that loan, they have the right to foreclose or reposes the property of which was financed, and can write off any loss on their taxes if they can't collect it from you first, along w/ penalties, interest, collections and legal fee's. The Fed ( a corrupt private banking cartel), owns & controls the money (currency) as the result of an act passed by congress in 1913. They are the ones who can print money as they wish, even though most of it is actually electronic in the form of credits. When the Fed puts too much currency into the system at once, they risk instability within both local and global economies, especially since crude oil is traded in US dollars. The existing pandemic w/ all of the stimulus currency being produced in record numbers, along w/ the previous bail-outs of 2008+...QE1, 2, and 3 (quantitative easing)which was massive currency printing.......We end up in a very unstable & dangerous economy which will likely either crash the system or at minimum, cause a domino effect of hyper inflation...This is the part where a loaf of bread may end up costing you $100, right before the Fed decides to crash the system, so they can introduce a new, more modern electronic monetary system...which is much easier for the Fed to control & manage on both domestic & global transactions. This is also the part which brings us much closer to the increased utilization of RFID chips. @keith cunningham That is the way it should be since the bank assumed the risk, but the negative equity and the money borrowed leaves a deficiency. Less money. Rarely, the car is worth more. Varies on the state whether the lender can collect. Plenty will forgive the loan. The person who had the repossession will get a form to report on the federal taxes.

That’s crazy about the cellphone charging. I find people that always charge their phones (and tool batteries as I am a construction worker) tend to be disorganized knuckleheads. I charge my phone only if it dips below 20% and tool batteries when they actually need it. Because of this my phone battery lasts at least two to three days between charges and my tool batteries last almost a week between charges. I find my way way more responsible and efficient.

Randy, you are correct as far as the credit score goes. Lenders will also look at the other factors in many cases as they are taking the risk. However it is less common to look at those other factors if your score is well over 800. A lot of lenders figure if you have a long history and great payment history you have it figured out. That is not true when working with credit unions. They usually want to look at income/loan balance to hit a set ratio or less. One other factor is that there are many different credit scores. Most are based upon the original FICO corporation but can vary widely. And then to complicate it, FICO has a new enhanced automotive score that is scaled to 900 for perfect credit. Last time I checked my FICO 8.0 score was 842 but my enhanced auto score was 887. No one person can tell you how those scores were calculated, but that is what the black box spit out. Both were pulled on the same day. Also the Transunion educational score that day was 822. So go figure. Who knows why??? The bottom line is with those kind of scores almost any lender will lend one hundred and thirty percent of the MSRP and beg you to take it at very low interest rates. Of course you did not get that credit score by being stupid, so be very careful and borrow as little as you can unless the terms are so low you have better places for your money to be. I mean it would be crazy to put a lot down when they offer zero down and zero percent if you have a home improvement project going at the same time. Just use that money to avoid taking a seven percent home equity loan instead. But don't take a zero down zero percent loan at one hundred and thirty percent of MSRP just to take a costly vacation!!! Make your money work as hard as you do.

Actually no. The system reflects actual costs. Lending to someone with a rock solid track record means they pay on time or early. They never miss payments without a phone call to make arrangements, etc. People who do not manage money well have to pay more for the risk that the lender takes both in erratic payments and possible repo costs in the future which may not be collectable or expensive to collect. You can look at it like a penalty to for bad money management skills or as a reward for good skills. Either way it is pricing risk.

Alot of times thats not the case, the dealer will want to finance you at the same rate through the banks he uses because he will get something out of it. You may get say 4% from your bank he has lots on institutions to try he may get one who gives you 3% well he can sell you on 3.5% so you are happy and he gets a .5% of that straight profit. No doubt its good to know what your rate should be or what you can get, but finance is part of there profit center they are more likely to negotiate harder if you are using there finance. In some cases if they really need to move some cars they can even buy down your rate and get you better then what you could.

Good credit is achieved by having a very good (and ideally perfect) payment history, low utilization rate, long credit history, and among other things. This shows lenders you have been a responsible borrower, which means you are more likely to repay the loan in full and on time than someone with bad credit. And lower risk = lower interest rate. Bad credit is usually the result of having failed to make payment on a loan, declared bankruptcy, high utilization rate (uses $4500 of your $5000 credit card limit, for example), short credit history, and among other things. Bad credit = higher risk of not repaying = higher interest rate to ensure the lender collects as much money back and as soon as possible. Who knows? You might declare bankruptcy next week, and no lender wants to eat the cost. That said, the credit score system is in no way perfect. Immigrants and people who never needed to borrow / learned about the system often have short or no credit history, which means they don’t qualify for a lot of low interest loans. It’s a game, but not everyone is taught how to play it at a young age. There are millions of American adults with zero credit history… if you can believe it.

Great. Usually, it would take 20% but if you have 7,000 why not negotiate and get yourself out of debt. Why do you need a car with bad credit. I am not going to say subprime to sugarcoat.

@@tinmanslickgreasy999 That would make better sense. I once told a young guy who had bad credit to.pay his creditors and negotiate with the $2000 cash in his pocket. He said thanks, got a cosigner and bought somewhere else. He owed $2000. He would rather pay higher rates or have someone else own the car than simply pay his bills and then have a good score to have a good rate.

@@uf1978 but my point is you need a credit score to get a mortgage. You stated you don't need a credit score. In some places a credit score is considered for insurance, utilities etc. I get what you were saying about debt, but a credit score is important.
