I've become fascinated by the blues since I started playing guitar, both technique, theory and history (I'm a heavy metal guy). I've learned a lot of shuffle approaches, but using the open D string on the G shuffle, never seen anyone doing that before. Yet it's so simple. I also finally figured out a lot of turnarounds start root to flat 7, then do the walk down. For whatever reason, that tidbit of knowledge has really helped me grab different walk downs on the fly. By the way "Beyond the Crossroads" by Adam Gussow is a fascinating look at the blues and how it both shaped and was shaped by the American South during the "Jim Crow" era.

Love the G and open D string part, then utilizing the E on the D string for the G part of the shuffle. Very clever Erich, and it keeps the whole progression close too. Learned something new today. Thank you, my friend.

Sorry Erich, I should have mentioned that Dr John's Jazzy/Blues version that I need from his Album, is from the original song by jazz singer Peggy Lee, but of course a totally different rendition/arrangement. Thanks again. Rollo.

I love the music of Gabriel the Bull. I wish you had a thousand songs. It’s the minor chords. Spanish Guitar sound.

@@yourguitarsageplease share any links to recorded live events. I was only able to find one with Gabriel alone in Tennessee. It was awesome but I’d like to see the whole band perform; especially you.

Absolutely love your clear and concise lessons, thank you so much, been subbed and will be for ever.🤗 You would totally make my days if you could do a lesson on Dr John's.. I'm gonna go fishin'. I've been trying to get above just noodling this one and nail it down finally, as it's such a cool groove. Here's hoping. Thanks again for all your time and effort here on YT, much appreciated. Ronnie Rollo.

I learned to play rhythm guitar from a friend in grad school but mostly strumming and some picking but I’m really a beginner. Where do I start to learn how to play lead probably from scratch? I’m sure I’ve learned some good and bad habits.

Hey Erich, I think you were picking the B string?…. You didn’t say. Love the lesson from one of the original blues masters. I vote for your choice from Muddy Waters or John Lee Hooker. More people should be aware of those guys and the work they put in pioneering for the rest of us.
