A friend sent me a link to this cover by Geoff because they know how much I like the bass voice. That was the gateway for me, then I found Voiceplay and I have been hooked ever since. To get the real theater vibe from Voiceplay, try the Little Mermaid Medley or Wicked Medley. Then you can go from the sublime to the ridiculous I Can't Make You Love Me and In the Hall of the Mountain King Creep and Drunken Sailor Geoff's cover of Shenandoah is gorgeous and soothing.

Great reaction! Yes, he has several really cool songs. The Headless Horseman, Shenandoah, Ghost Riders In The Sky come to mind. As for Voiceplay, they're all over the place from covers of classic rock, Broadway, Disney, holiday videos. Personally I like their Medley of " Wicked", Metallica's " Nothing Else Matters", Moana, The Little Mermaid, Carry on My Wayward Son, Valhalla Calling. Lots of great songs to choose from!

Hi Welcome to Voice Play and Geoff. You are in for a delightful ride. I just wanted to recommend that you always watch Geoff's and Voice Play's videos with the captions on if you have that option. Many times, they put in jokes or Easter eggs in the captions. Geoff has a beautiful video with his wife Kathy that tells of their relationship and her struggles before she became their Production manager and I believe they take such care with the captions partially because of being so aware of how important they are for some people. Voice Play and Geoff are extremely nice to their fan base and quite accessible through their Patreon. They are also completely independent and do almost everything themselves so generally you should have no trouble with KZfaq and their copyrights algorithm so please Do feel comfortable showing their videos onscreen with you just as you did here. Great reaction BTW I will keep an eye out for you

Awesome seeing you return to Geoff! He's not only an incredible talent, but if you ever watch any interviews or anything, he's such a likeable guy. It must be hard to look like he does and have his talent, and remain humble, but he manages to pull it off. Easily one of my favorite singers. If you really want to see Geoff's humor, "Monster Mash" has to be near the top of the list, though you might want to wait for it to get closer to Halloween. In the meantime, his Johnny Cash cover, "Folsom Prison Blues," which is pretty new, is absolutely fantastic.

Juliet, Halloween is coming up so I would recommend "Monster Mash" and "Headless Horseman" for Geoff. However, Geoff's most viewed cover is "Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold" from The Hobbit. As far as VoicePlay is concerned, one of my favorites is "Tennessee Whiskey". As far as humor is concerned you can't beat "Drunken Sailor". I am glad you are reacting to Geoff now.

Absolutely have to echo the suggestion for Monster Mash. It's funny, it's timely (for the season), and it absolutely plays into both ends of his range. Certainly a showpiece for his style. "Far Over..." is a great suggestion, and if you're into trying out his work with Voiceplay, "Oogie Boogie's Song" is another great match.

So many people suggest "Oogie Boogie" as an intro to VoicePlay, mostly because it's what most of us FIRST heard back when that song trended on KZfaq and was shared around choir forums for months, thanks to Geoff's lead. For many of us, it was the first time we had ever even HEARD of "subharmonics." Since you already know Geoff's crazy lows, it's less shocking, although still so playful, lots of character voices, the PERFECT Halloween song to check out next month, yet I feel it's not the best to show off the ENTIRE GROUP, as Geoff has lead through most of the song and the rest are BVs or character voices. I always suggest "Hoist the Colours" as a good intro to the unique voices of the current member lineup. "Valhalla Calling" as well makes a good intro to VoicePlay. It really topped their theatrics game and brought back J. None, a former member who left in 2021 to sing in the Navy. They're holding his place as the 5th member, using guest singers in the meantime, which helps to introduce some talented singers. Nearly every song of theirs since 2021 features someone new, although a few guest singers have become regulars. The divine Rachel Potter from Broadway has collabed with them for well over 10 years, and Jose Rosario Jr. from "Hamilton" tends to be in their pirate-themed songs like "Hoist the Colours." They also work with AJ Cardona a lot (his voice is such a beautiful addition in "Dragonborn Comes") and his brother EJ Cardona from Voctave (not theatrical, but "I Can't Make You Love Me" has to be one of their most beautiful songs).

With Geoff's videos, Shenandoah is gorgeous and fits it century and a half history. I'd also do Blackbird and High and Dry, as well as some of the Halloween themes - my first one was Geoff's Monster Mash, the Headless Horseman, as well as VoicePlay's; In the Hall of the Mountain King, Hide and Seek, Superstition, Queen in 5 Minutes, Friends on the Other Side.

When watching one of Geoff's videos (or VoicePlay, the a cappella group he sings bass for, and highly recommended!), they sometimes put interesting/humorous comments in the closed-captions, so I think you'll enjoy it if you turn them on when watching. In this video, for instance, there's a comment when Geoff does the low riff near the end: "(Super dramatic bend to a low F# 😉)" For Geoff, to see him individualizing his "clones", check out Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold, and then I See Fire - both songs from The Hobbit movies. I See Fire especially will give you a good idea of just how wide Geoff's range is. For another good example of his range, check out Blackbird. For VoicePlay, check out We Don't Talk About Bruno, the Little Mermaid medley, or Valhalla Calling - all showing why they got the nickname "the theater kids of a cappella". For songs that are just amazing, but not theatrical, check out I Can't Make You Love Me, Nothing Else Matters, or Bridge Over Troubled Waters.

The more you listen to Geoff you’ll start to hear that sliding onto and off of notes is kind of part of his signature sound. It’s definitely a stylistic choice but I also think it’s a holdover from constantly singing bass lines where he has to slide all over the place. For first VoicePlay song, I’m going to recommend “In My Room” or “In The Air Tonight”. Most VP fans are going to want you to react to their more dramatic stuff first, like “Hoist The Colors”, but I think the other two give a better sense of each voice in the group without being too theatrical. Any song of theirs is good though, and we will always give you info. But please do not do Oogie Boogie first; it’s a Geoff showcase and will not give you a good overview of the whole band. I would save that for later.

Great reaction to the amazing Geoff Castellucci! I'm not sure if you've reacted or not to them, but he is one of the founding members of the a capella group Voiceplay. If you haven't reacted to them, you definitely should! Absolutely amazing and their theatrics is off the chart! Geoff has many amazing covers on his channel, but one you should definitely react to is his cover of Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine." It will melt you right into the carpet! Lol! Two of his "fun" ones are "Monster Mash" and "The Headless Horseman," as we draw closer to Halloween!

As many have said, with Halloween coming up, Geoff's versions of Monster Mash or Headless Horsemen are great. I would also recommend I See Fire (though you could really pull up anything he has put out and it's going to be great). For Voiceplay, the range of songs they cover is so big it's tough to pick a single song that represents them. I believe Oogie Boogie's song (from Nightmare Before Christmas) is their most viewed video, but it really is more of a Geoff showcase than a song that gives you a feeling for the entire group. I would suggest Nothing Else Matters as a song that is one of my favorites that they have done and everyone shines at different points. Nothing Else Matters is also a good one because it features J.None, a former member of Voiceplay who is currently serving with the Marines. Popular theory is that when his service is done he will rejoin Voiceplay as a full time member, though I don't know that either he or the group has posted anything to confirm this. One thing you will notice about Voiceplay is that since J.None left, they have worked with a variety of different singers to be featured in that fifth spot and they are very adept at blending with that guest artist. I personally love everything they have done with Ashley Dianne (If I Was A Rich Man / Girl, Running Up That Hill, We Don't Talk About Bruno), but if you listen to anything from the last 1-2 years it's all great.

Geoff has several covers and one of his favorites is from the Jungle Book "The Bare Necessities" and one of my favorite that has been covers over many decades "Ghost Riders in the Sky". VoicePlay usually drops new releases at noon Florida time on Fridays, typically every 3-5 weeks. Drunken Sailor came out, what, five weeks ago? Six? I expect they likely have something in the works that will come out soon, probably something at least Halloween-adjacent, because VP absolutely loves doing Halloween stuff. Their October release is pretty much always Halloween themed, but last September we got Mountain King, which is kind-of sort-of Halloween-ish and also is maybe the best thing they've ever done.

If you want to see Geoff’s personality and sense of humor coming through, watch Way Down. He’s such a goof. First VoicePlay vid…well Halloween is coming… As a vocal teacher you will find a LOT to listen to in their Hall of the Mountain King. Their guest in that is jaw dropping. Hide And Seek is another good Halloweenish one, both do a good job of showing you their “theatre kids” side and their goofiness. (The second vid is based on Disney’s Haunted Mansion ride) Aside from Halloween, Valhalla Calling has some impressive performances from both Geoff and the group’s powerhouse tenor, Eli. (That is short for Eliezer, and pronounced like jelly without the J.) If you want more serious VoicePlay performances, then Nothing Else Matters, Seven Nation Army, Creep, and Dream On would be my top choices. (In no particular order)

Besides being an incredible vocalist, aranger and pretty easy on the eyes, Geoff is a great storyteller. A lot of the songs he has done I have heard all my life, but never paid attention to what the lyrics were trying to tell me. It’s the same for a lot of what VoicePlay has done. There’s something about the way that they approach the arrangements that breathe new life into old songs. This is one of my favorites for new people to react to because you get to see that he has a few different characters and that there’s a little interaction between them before you get befuddled by his “characters” in things like Misty Mountain (and one of my new favorites) I See Fire from Desolation of Smaug. In those he has indulged his theater nerd and appears as four of the dwarves in the Tolkien saga. To really see a good example of humor, try his cover of Elvis Presley’s Way Down. In that one, we finally get names assigned to the clones. He is known for often injecting “cm’on” and “yeah” in his solo pieces. He was born in Virginia and moved to Florida around the age of eight. A lot of his solo work has its roots in the south. His cover of Shenandoah is gorgeous. I know that people are going to recommend that you do Oogie Boogie from Nightmare before Christmas. It is one of my favorites, but please bear in mind that they’re pretty much all doing character voices. It does show a lot of the versatility and the end part by Geoff is pretty amazing, but don’t discount the other members of the group. VoicePlay has been performing professionally since 1997. Up until around 2010 they did use a different name for the group and had a lot of substitutions in those early years. The three originating members are Geoff, Layne Stein (originally the baritone and currently the beatboxer) and Earl who was their high tenor up until the year 2020. Around 2010, Eli (pronounced to rhyme with jelly) Jacobson joined as tenor. Most of the substitutions have been baritones. Tony Wakim was with them from 2010 to about 2017. When he left pursue other creative activities, they brought in J Nunn who was with them until 2021 when he left to sing with the Navy. He still comes back as a featured artist and has recently moved back to the East Coast. We are hoping we will see more of him. When J left they replaced him with Cesar de la Rosa, the baby of the group and nicknamed Mr. Sassy. They bring in featured artists to fill that fifth position and have done so since 2020. It gives them the chance to explore musical styles and numbers that they normally would not get to do. One of their most frequent collaborators is Rachel Potter who went to high school in the same area so has known them for a long time. She was a finalist on the X Factor while the guys were participating in the Sing Off. She has appeared with them about a dozen times. If you go to the credits you will always see who has done what. About 90 to 95% of the arrangements are done by Geoff and Layne, taking alternate months. Eli has collaborated with them at times and has done two arrangements on his own. The most recent one being their cover of Creep which was fantastic. Eli is also responsible for the lighting and often the digital backgrounds. The person who does the arrangement takes charge of the entire project from storyboard to venue, costumes and arranging for make up if elaborate. They do the video direction and editing and do the initial sound edits. They send it off for a final polish to Ed Boyer who does the mixing for most of the major a cappella groups. Geoff’s wife Kathy is a huge part of the group acting as manager and fixer of all things that need fixing. I really enjoy watching people’s reactions to them. It’s a bonus when the person has musical background and can explain something in laymans terms to those of us without the training. I’ll be interested to see what you think about some of their upcoming work. Halloween is by far their favorite holiday. They are the lords and kings of Halloween. Every year they put out something in conjunction with the season. They have done four pieces from Tim Burton‘s Nightmare before Christmas, they used Stevie Wonder’s Superstition as a nod to the season, as well as many others. Geoff also does a seasonal selection and has done so for the last two years.

This is a fun song. However, this IA a true story. Back then coal companies didn't pay their miners in American money, they made their own company cash. Which couldn't be used anywhere except the company store. So even if the miner save thousands of dollars in company money 💰 they couldn't leave bcuz their money was worthless everywhere else in the US.
