Domingo Ayala

8 жыл бұрын

In this episode of Domingo Ayala's Theory of Beisbol Domingo discusses the unimportance of youth hitting stats. These really don't matter in the grand scheme of things, so why do some people make such a big deal about them? Domingo doesn't know.

"Making youth all-stars because of dad being coach or being on the board": absolutely true. My daughter plays Pony. She pitched 2-3 innings every game. She struck out most of the top of the lineups she faced. She only walked 4 batters all season...all were strikeouts or ground outs. She got on base by walks every game because she knows a real strikezone. When she did hit, it was always line drives or hard grounders in the two-hole to the outfield. My point? She got nominated for all-stars, but not selected. She was clearly one of the best in our division this season. Several umpires gave her great compliments about composure & pitch location. She was also our first baseman and second string catcher. And, I had her play outfield several games so other kids got the chance for the better positions. Naturally, there were kids selected that were better than her. But, there were kids way less skilled selected because the all-star coach took several kids from his first place team. ...it's never TRULY about the kids or fair league representation. I love baseball with all my heart, but I hate what "adults" have done to the game. I love Domingo, he's definitely NOT semi-pro.

I sucked at baseball until I started puberty around 15, I was a very late bloomer. I couldn't hit a ball with a metal bat 300' until I was 18 about 5'3" 107lbs. I stopped growing at 23, I'm 5'7" 145, I wish I could've been this big but I might not have worked on my technique as much to try to keep up with the big kids. My knowledge of the game was great, I knew I sucked but I've heard you have to be good to know you suck, people who really suck think they are alright. I still love playing even though it's not at a level to brag about, I can make all the play, throws, and hits I always dreamt of as a kid. My time in the game came late but it's okay, I have 3 kids and coach 2 teams in little league. It's awesome to be the coach who can still play and isn't an old desk job dad who hits fungos with a glove on (oh no, Mr. Coach what you are doing?). Even if you suck keep playing, you'll get there.

Not only in little league- my son's high school team has a parent as the statistician and enhanced all the players numbers (his son played on the team naturally). Was quite a joke among a few parents when seeing the box score on school website the next day. So many errors were credited as hits. It's not just a little league plague!

Funny video! My wife and I was just talking about how the local AllStar team has 6 coaches and 9 coach's kids! Even my 9 year old son turned them down! Here's an idea for a topic. The coach that costs the team the game cuz he won't switch his son when he's walking everybody or giving up too many hits!
