Youtube Music workers get fired while asking Austin City Council for Google negotiation resolution

As workers urged City Council to pass a resolution asking Google to negotiate with KZfaq Music employees, they were told their contract was over.
The move came after the group was hopeful that Austin City Council might be able to help urge their tech giant employers to come to the bargaining table and negotiate. But a year of tension that included a strike, a unionization vote, a return-to-office and National Labor Relations Board disputes, all came to a head when tech staffing agency Cognizant held a meeting in their Austin office informing dozens of workers that their employment contract had ended.

The city council has approved KZfaq's use of property and maybe tax breaks to operate in the city on the promises of creating jobs. Just like Wal-mart does and a lot of other shady corporations. So if Alphabet/youtube pulled a scam on the city council, then the city council should pressure the corporation to fulfill it's promises or fork over the taxes they should be paying, instead of creating an unlivable situation for wage slaves in the city.

Can someone explain why people are so passionate to work for companies that apparently don't pay well? Did they not know the job paid 19/hr when they applied for it? Did they still not know that when they accepted it? Why now do they still want to work for this company that is making them take their issues to court? Is KZfaq music the only music company in the planet that offers jobs?

No, they're contract didn't came to an end. They're got laid off. That's not how contract jobs works. They're gave them a date to start and a deadline. After the deadline is done, they're do a valuation on the person work. If Google loves that employee from that contract company. They can recruit them and gave them a full time offer. Google just terminated the contract between cognizant. They're contract was still going until Google terminated contract. Google didn't like something about cognizant business. It's hard to get a contract with a company specially from Google. Terminate one employee is no problem usually bad performance but terminate a group of people is strange and a problem that's what we just saw on live. They're just human beings trying to survive in this world. Google is a messed up company.

They could have not wasted their time and parents money getting those degrees, and instead learned a useful skill like welding, or carpentry, and been paid a better wage by doing something useful for society, such as building homes. They could also start their own fortune 100 company, and then they could pay themselves whatever wage they think they deserve... ...right up to when they put their own company out of business for overpaying their own menial workers way too much for working in the unskilled positions of their business, the way they want Google to do...

Someone feel free to correct me if any of this isn't factual. But from what I read, it sounds like they were not actually laid off, at least not yet. They were benched by the company they actually work for (Cognizant). They get to do next to nothing for 7 weeks while waiting on a new assignment that may or may not come. At that point they might be laid off. They were never FT Google employees, which apparently bothered them a great deal. But Google never hired them individually and has no real responsibility for their individual employment.

Indeed they were employed by Cognizant, not Google, as contract workers and not full-time employees. Ultimately, they unionized for the purpose of bring recognized as full employees (again, they're contractors, not FTE) and to incur the same pay and benefits offered to the full-timers (as a contractor, you sign in total acknowledgement of your pay and benefits, and understand you're paid through the agency, not the company you're provided to). This brings Cognizant to an awkward position, because now Google have grounds to terminate Cognizant's contract wholecloth.

So let me get this straight, you are technically a third-party vendor contracted by Google. So your company Cognizant, was hired for a service and you in turn were hired to do a job and then tried to sue the people who were paying your company for a service, not your actual company Cognizant. So then your work contract with Conizant ended and thats Google's fault how? My guess you are the same group of people that were saying "Learn to code" a few years ago. No one owes you anything.
