I have not heard a male singer comparable to Sam Cooke. Rebert H. Harris is most definitely the most influential male singer. Harris is credited with being the innovator who laid the foundation of the intertwined relationship of double and triple lead vocals and harmony within a singing group. The Soul Stirrers is the pioneering group for the majority of iconic groups including; the Impressions, Dells, Drifters, and Temptations. Most are confused. Often the stylists and entertainers are preferred over authentic singing. Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Eddy Levert, David Ruffin, Marvin Junior, Bobby Womack, Bunny Wailer, Peter Tosh, Sam Cooke. Rebert H. Harris and Steve Wonder are my favorite male singers. James Brown, Prince, Michael Jackson, Bob Marley and Fela are my favorite male singing entertainers

@@MlilwanaOsanku Great list. Have you heard the acoustic version of "I Am That I Am" by Tosh?
@MlilwanaOsanku2 жыл бұрын
@@MichaelWilliams-cd9if I am not sure. I probably did. His musicianship is superb. His ska era singing exposes him early African American influences. His exposure to Rasta themes is evident in recordings after April 1966. His voice then becomes unique a gospel of the life and times of the underprivileged work class people. Obviously, recognized the sincerity and the radical advocacy of Malcolm X as being a direct descendant of Marcus Garvey. I love Tosh's music produced for Jamaican consumers more than the content produced for European ears, and global consumption. The music on the three wailers' labels is much better than their content found elsewhere. The list is much too long to mention here, Currently, I am paying great attention to the Gospel of Saint Peter of Westmoreland - Lessons in my Life - than his other musings and anthems. Deceit, greed and treachery are dominant themes in Tosh's expressions.

I read Dream Boogie also. Here is an excerpt from the book about the event. "George couldn’t help but notice that Jackie was softly singing along, and suddenly the idea struck him: Why not have the two of them do it together? Sam and Jackie were game, and in the televised performance, Sam has barely gotten through the second chorus when all of a sudden Jackie glides out gracefully and lip-synchs the next verse while Sam indicates eye-rolling surprise.
