Gabbie Hanna speaks to Oxford Union president Hannah Edwards about becoming famous on Vine and how she handled fame at a young age.
Ms Hanna has released two studio albums and written both plays and books. She took a break from social media in 2022 after she posted over 100 TikTok videos in one day - which she later attributed to a manic episode brought on by bipolar.

While i don’t think you ever meant ill intent you were just giving your personal opinion as someone who kept up with her over the years i do think there is still resentment from her on the parody dog book since that was what really got her upset it seems. I do wish she would not be bitter and not take it so personally because at the end of the day it’s just art and different styles are for different people. Hope someday she can not be as upset on this issue because it’s such a small thing to have resentment about and holding on to resentment ultimately is not good for anyone.

She told an interesting story about her experience with cosmetic procedures and plastic surgery as an influencer in L.A. Like how she went to get a bit of filler above her nose bridge, then they talked her into getting it in the tip of her nose too, and her chin, jawline, temples, botox, lips, etc. How every time she would go to get touch-ups they would be like ''you're not symmetrical you'll look better with this, and it's free'', etc. It was actually really interesting to hear about that, and how majorly toxic that sh*t is, and to beware the things these people will say if you you go to these places, and how it can really darken your spirit, etc. I wonder if it happens in the UK too with influencers, i bet it does.

It’s so crazy how it boils down to that. She has NO self awareness! It’s so intriguing to me because I try so hard day in and day out to be aware of how I’m behaving and being perceived (possibly to a fault but that’s not the point here). To watch someone work so hard to position themselves as literally never being wrong is enthralling.

I can see how this could be perceived in this way. However, I just can imagine how nervous, anxious, and self-critical I would be in that room so much so that I would most likely be replaying every answer I give back and analyzing it as the conversation continues which really gives a non-present vibe. So she possibly could be trying to come across as likeable as possible due to social anxiety.

@@ambylam as someone working a 9-5 that’s perpetually on LinkedIn, there are so many people who are still unemployed and still facing the after effects of Covid on the job markets. These are people with years of solid experience, great work ethic, high qualifications and they’re still struggling. And then there’s influencers like Gabbie. Influencers in general have it easy but hey, some of them are creative and genuine enough for us to vouch. Gabbie is NOT one of them. It’s one of those things that make you realize how effed up things are. A professor, author, artist, musician or anybody influential with a good character could’ve been given this opportunity, and they bring GABBIE HANNA 🤦🏻‍♀️ Disappointing on all levels. Not something you would expect from Oxford.

People don’t realize how easy it is to slip into old habits. I don’t know Gabbie and nor do anyone of you. What she said at one point in the video was not very kind and seemed harsh. However, because she slipped back into old habits on a very publicized interview doesn’t mean she has not change in some regard. How many of you could stay off social media for a year after people baiting you every week or possibly every day? Not a lot I don’t think. There’s something to be said for that. How a so-called narcissistic person stay away for that long? I think there could be more to the story and to consider calling out her words and actions to promote her to change or realize she made a mistake instead of bullying/diagnosing someone they never met.
