Fun fact: This is a private prison, run by Serco, which is also contracted by the UK government to provide services for asylum seekers, both in the UK and Australia. They also ran the Christmas Island refugee camp off the coast of Queensland, where an inquiry found many instances of maltreatment, understaffing, and inmate suicide...think of it as a UK version of Blackwater. lol

@@bshaw8175 . Nauru was another 'processing centre'. Christmas Island was run by Serco and is in the Indian Ocean. I don't know whether it is still in operation, but in April 2023 there were still over 50 detainees being held there.

As far as prisons go this one seems better than most American prisons. However even if this was the best prison ever created it is still a prison and probably not the best way of doing things. So doing a tech review of any prison feels really dystopian. Like something straight out of Cyberpunk 2077.

Yeah that's why I felt conflicted about the original video. There are all the obvious issues with a tech KZfaqr basically promoting a fucking prison _but_ the prison at least seemed a lot better than what I've seen of nearly every other US prison. Given the gravity of this inhumane machine it's hard to call this anything but baby steps (if at all) but I can see where the KZfaqr was coming from with this video if he really thought that the "innovations" in this video were just as much for the prisoners benefit as they are for security

5:02 This is literally an effective mouse trap. Put peanut oil in a bowl. Mice go in for the strong smelling oil and can't get out. But it's slightly cruel in that they will absolutely tire themselves out. Make sure you give them a gentle dawn bath if you are doing TNR.

I mean, even hasan didn't give much social commentary this time besides the most standard stuff and a ...surprising "slave labour good I'm not reading that, too much effort" Mr beast style content is a black hole. Nothing good ever comes out of it. Edit: and just to be clear cause I know Hasan has real haters, I don't mean to imply I think he actually supports slave labour, just that I'm surprised he was distracted enough by the tech and wording to buy in... like that's the point of these videos and high-tech prisons so I was surprised he didn't just see through it.

Personally I feel like it's a bit dystopian to have a tech bro youtuber (and this guy specifically is very hyper about everything, clickbaity, etc) just casually walking through a prison and inspecting the dumbest shit like what keyboard they use or how cool their CAT simulator is while ignoring the whole... prison... thing. Prison, while necessary, is not something I wanna look at and think "wow, how cool!". There's ways to show how a prison works but this feels like propaganda and/or out of touch. MrWhostheboss in particular has this style of videos where he covers a very big topic but barely goes into any detail other than looking at a thing and showing you it exists. Wide as an ocean, deep as a poodle. The concept of the video is interesting but the end result is... empty? So if you were to tell me you made a video about the latest technologies that prisons use I'd like to watch it but then you do and it's just this guy making a mr beast face while giving you useless trivia like what model of drone they use, the fact that they have a dog to smell drugs or the fact that a prison is covered in cameras. For example the part about them learning trades and what not is actually good and interesting but he spends more time nerding out about how cool the sim is than talking about how a program like that can help the people in there after they get out. The simulator isn't even prison tech it's just a normal training tool. Why is he even... Ah, whatever. The only real awknowledgement of it being a prison is at the end with this 10 second long interview about a guy who says the worst thing about being locked up is not having Google. Like, come on. What a human moment 🥹

@@ackmandesu8538 I looked up his channel, it seems like a tech review channel so it makes sense for him to explore that part of the prison that's relevant to the topics he covers. Why would you want a tech bro to do activism for exposing prisoners horrible conditions? That would backfire even more than just letting the ominous stuff about prisons fade into the background while he nerds out about the stuff he has actual expertise on. I actually like that he seperated the tech side of this from the ethical, legal and the moral and focused solely on that. The two girls in this video or Hasan can go outside at least once in a while and always reach out to former prisoners, interview them and expose the horrible conditions they've lived through.

What did he provide that was useful at all? Like they said, the host didn't do anything useful. His "expertise" added nothing because he barely spent any time or effort. I dunno man. At some point you gotta look at what you're doing and consider if you're too internet-brained. My boy is walking around a prison like it's a theme park.

There's an inverse relationship with crime severity and reformation. It's not about kindness, it's about wasting the least amount of resources and putting people back into society after proper reform. Prison is a waste of money and it's needlessly cruel. And super max does not just have the kinds of criminals you think are irredeemable, and on top of that, it has a lot of falsely convicted people@@user-iz2js4iw5c
