I swear this is like an argument between two Kingdom Hearts fans where one talks about all of the stupid and hokey moments in the story, and the other says "you just don't get it, it's supposed to be symbolic". And trust me I speak from alot of experience.

Tekken definitely wasn't hokey at the beginning. It had a couple comedy relief characters. But it has also become more hokey over time. But in general the main line games aren't hokey.

I wouldn't say 90% of Tekken is hokey. Maybe 70-80% of it is. Every character has their own goofy things from Marshall Law teaching his son and Paul how to do the backflip kick and them busting their faces on the ground to Heihachi singing and clapping along while he watchs Kuma dance.

I think every good fighting game has at least SOMETHING that is goofy. It gives it some character. In a series where you beat each other to a pulp, humor/absurdity is a fun juxtaposition.

Tekken was mostly serious up to 4 (which was my favorite tone-wise) where the whole game had a darker more mature feel to it, but so many people hated T4, so in T5 they changed the tone completely and now most stuff in it is weird stuff trying to be funny and becoming more anime-like. I really wish they go back to the T4 concept. Tekken has always been best when it had an industrial feel to it.

I am kind of in the middle on this one. The main reasons I love tekken is because it was crazy and insane. Sure it was cheesy some of the time but that's just part of its charm. That doesn't make it bad though and I don't think Steve and max think that either. Like robot anime girls fighting bears, kangaroos, dancers, even freaking pandas. It's so bizarre and crazy and fun and that's what's most important, to me at least

King's story is all serious I would say. It feels amazing having a serious character with good and admirable morals. I think MK and SF are way mlre hokey than Tekken.

Tekken is one of the best fighting game franchise even though it had a little bad endings on tekken tag team and other ones but it still a fun game

I fall somewhere in the middle. The serious side of the storyline is what attracted me to Tekken in the first place when I was younger, and it is what made me stick with it for the most part. The other side of it however, is rather hokey, but lets face it, that just adds to Tekken's charm. But Tekken 7 looks set to be one of the darkest entries in the series. So I suppose we'll see how it plays out there.

To be fair on both sides, think of it this way. The main characters have serious endings because they already have one to start with. There are some that are semi-serious but later went goofy too. The rest of the characters are meant to have "hokey" endings because they don't have a real and serious story to behind their characters. Examples in forms of beating arcade: Kazuya and Jin - always serious. Heihachi - Serious, Hokey in 6 and TTT2, Serious in 7 (obviously) Law(s) and Paul - Serious to Kung Fu Comedy to Hokey Eddy and Christie - Serious Xiaoyu - Happy Silly Girl endings but Tekken 6 was close to being serious Anna and Nina - Sibling rivalry that went from serious to hokey Bryan and Yoshimitsu - Stalemate rivalries. (Bryan wins or Yoshi wins) Hwoarang and Baek - Semi Serious/Rival with Jin or Teacher vs. Student lessons Everyone else but the few I missed are Hokey.

I have no idea what any of this is, and I want more of it.
