My friend lent me Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana about two years ago. I have zero knowledge of what the game franchise is but I am really glad I had the opportunity to play it. The story is for me is outstanding and touching, and has one of the greatest soundtracks in a game I've ever heard. One of the best action adventure games I've ever played. A game worthy of a Platinum Trophy playthrough and beyond. Thank you very much Nihon Falcolm for the wonderful gaming experience.

Add to that why does Adol go back to level 1 and getting killed by bugs and small animals after slaying super powerful monsters like Galbalan, Dark Fact, Eldeen etc.
@nolankuffner3573
@nolankuffner3573 3 жыл бұрын
@@RyuHayabusa06 in that respect, I see it as he still knows how to swing his sword, it's more his adaptability that you're experiencing with his leveling up. Which is why he's still not 'robust' like Dogi. Example: A millipede is different from an ant and an ant is different from a mantis. If one of those bugs attacked in a way that he wasn't expecting, it would make him look weaker. But once you've gotten used to the controls, you'd be able to avoid every one of those attacks and strike faster. Some people play Ys at a low level because they don't need to level much. Some over level because their reaction time is slower. Realistically, when you consider those differences in species, and that the story is written from a powerful weapon trumps brute strength perspective, it kinda makes sense. Though, with the relics, I always assumed Adol just returned them to the native peoples.
@ShinkeiDEI
@ShinkeiDEI 3 жыл бұрын
@@RyuHayabusa06 actually the series does address this, either because of losing his equipment or because of enemies that cannot be damaged with regular swords (Ark of Napishtim, Seven, Lacrimosa), but everyone knows and regards Adol as a master swordsman, in fact Aprilis does comment on his skill in IX.

It makes me wonder how many books there are going to be with regards to the ys storyline and how much more story is there with regards to adol's adventures. The demo sucks compared to actually playing the game where you build your character skills, gear and exploration gathering items, money, quests to progress your characters & story. Without the RPG mechanics the demo is just action fluff with a lame 10 minute time limit, which for me isn't that interesting so I hated the demo but love the actual game. Oh I did change one of the camera controls, I think I changed the vertical camera. They messed up the setting naming, maybe they fixed it in patch. www.reddit.com/r/Falcom/comments/lbi4pd/am_i_going_crazy_or_is_this_a_game_error_ys_ix/

I'm really glad that there are guys like you spreading how good of a game Ys is because honestly, this title is criminally underrated.. I'm honestly hoping for the day that Ys gets the worldwide attention, maybe then well get the AAA makeover it deserves.. for now, all we can do as a fan of the game is support Falcom and buy every Ys games to be released..

I just finished it and agree with all your points! The island mystery of Ys 8 just was so special and unique, and the slightly better music just puts it above 9 for me. That said, I really loved 9 and loved additions of the character abilities!

Wow, I can agree like 100% with your opinion. Maybe the best Ys story so far, but there is so much dialogue (especially optional NPC dialogue) which really kills the pacing. It almost feels like a Trails game, but that's not what Ys should be about in my opinion. Next on please an Ys 5 remake, Adol all alone in a more like Felghana game would be awesome.

For me I think in future games I'm really going to miss the "Gifts" in the next installment. Even just being able to run up walls was a game changer for this series. I also agree that even though it starts out with the impression of being a very "dark" game with the red moons, gothic style, and the Lemures in the Grimwald being a tad frightening at first, but this game really lightens up as you get to know the people and explore the world and as usual Adol brings everyone together and things become really lighthearted.

I bought the limited edition for this game from NIS America, because I've been really wanting to check out other games from Falcom, outside of the Trails games. That being said, this will be my first Ys game, so I am really excited to dive into this game. I haven't played it yet, because I am still playing through Trails of Cold Steel IV. Which is a looooooooooooong game. I also have Ys Origin on PS4, so I will be diving into that after Ys IX.

Ys 8 felt better for me because it feels so rewarding to do the quests. If you get asked to collect wood for beds, you have beds in your base after completing the quest. Something that 9 sadly lacks, I still loved it tho.

Never played Ys. But i remember hearing stories in the past about its difficulty. Plus over time it's grown. Always been the rpg underdog. I totally relate with too much dialog / versus exploration.
