You can see the smile on the chauffeur’s face when he meets Mrs Rassmusen. This is one of the best Johnny Dollar episodes and that’s saying a lot.

A brilliant episodes. Acting, writing, direction. 7 decades old and yet as heartfelt as the days it was originally broadcast

Even when I scroll down, whenever I see "The Rasmussen Matter" in my feed, I automatically smile. For ALL the YTJD episodes that I've listened to...which has been a LOT...rivaled only by "The Five Down Matter" as being the best of the single episodes, and is my favorite by far!

Bob and Virginia worked very well together, this one's story is so heartfelt and wholesome compared to many other episodes. *spoilers* I thought forsure she was going to be in it for the insurance. What writing tho! 👏 bravo

I wouldn't have thought that a 60-year radio program could make me cry; the ending did JUST that! I know that other actors played the title character, but Bob Bailey is "TRULY"...Johnny Dollar!

Agreed. Brian, good writing is good writing. Last month ago I watched "The Kid" by Charlie Chaplin. I have watched it several times, and I still choke up towards the end when he rescues the kid. Couldn't talk for several minutes. And that was written in 1922 (I think) And who in God's name disliked this episode? Trolls are everywhere on the internet.

If there was ever a "Prodigal Daughter" story, this would definitely be it. Hope this episode was nominated or won whatever the equivalent of an Emmy award would be for radio dramas. Acting was superb, especially the actress portraying Laura. Bob Bailey, as we fans know, was in a class all by himself. He was the best Johnny Dollar by far.

The most beautiful tale of the series I think. I challenge anyone not to be moved by this touching account, but then I guess I'm just a big sensitive lush. Most enjoyable.Sob Sob.

After the Bob Bailey / Johnny Dollar series changed formats from five 15 minute weekday installments to a single half hour weekly episode, there wouldn't be much time for utilizing the kind of character development that the 5-parters were noted for. But this half hour episode is one of the closest things to the 5-parters, in terms of being full of characters you could care about and the kind of "sensitivity" that Bob Bailey embued as Johnny Dollar.

I’m not sentimental I don’t cry at movies and I didn’t with this but this was such a great story and the super sappy ending works. Best OTR drama with a ridiculously out of date premise. Bob Bailey was awesome

Gosh, I listen to these for their camp value, but this one actually made me cry. I wasn't expecting that. I was raised in a very rough home which I ran from at 17. I was very poor for a very long time. I had to struggle to survive and often had to navigate the balance between predators and homelessness. I really don't think I knew what love is until I met my husband when I was 41. He was poor when we fell in love and married, but he's since become quite successful and we have a lovely, secure, peaceful home. I don't have to struggle anymore. We've been together 12 years today, the anniversary of the day we met. This episode was just perfect for this day.

My god, these Bob Bailey Johnny Dollar radio programs eclipse any TV or film productions ever made, even hearing them for the third or tenth time they are the best entertainment ever made. If some Hollywood mogul could figure out how to turn them into film they could make a mint. Only problem, there was only Bob Bailey. So glad he lived.

Reading the comments below, my heart was touched just knowing there are other people that appreciate OTR and Bob Bailey as JD. Thank you all for taking the time to post your comments and share your thoughts. Sometimes I think I was born to late as these shows were way before my time. However how I got into these shows was through CBSRMT with EG Marshal. From there I dove into shows like suspense, The Whistler, Sam Spade, our miss Brooks and of course YTJD. The great Gildersleeve Fiber McGee and Molly. The list goes on of course. These shows are so much better than most any tv shows. Sorry about rambling but good to know you guys

Yes, it does sound like him. I checked, Brock Peters was 19 in 1956, probably too young to be on the radio.
