Fixed blade fallknivens are indeed made in Japan. They're made by Hattori in Seki City. Their folders are made by Moki, who also manufacture Al-mar's folders. Thanks for the video Wako!

I think R2 steel is the same as super gold or 3G (fallkniven). The damascus makes it more tough. Very lovely knife! they even have some models that look like the bravo 1 or gunny! Thanks a lot for the video. Happy hunting and stay safe!

I recently bought a Sukenari R2 240mm gyuto with an ebony/horn wa handle. So far, its been my best knife investment in the last couple years. The blade is 2.7mm thick at the heel and 2.2mm thick in the center of the blade. The hardness is 62-64 rockwell, and it is very thin behind the edge. Cooking it my passion, and Japanese cooking knives are quite amazing.

Well said. I'm happy for Japan to keep its culture and industry. If japan had free trade with china only a short distance away, think of how poor so many working class Japanese would be. They would compete with Chinese workers who work for pennies. It is the same with the US. Why should we drop the wages of american workers to match places in the world where workers are treated poorly?

The popular narrative among TPP supporters is that it increases GDP (and ostensibly quality of life) in the developing world. The facts tell a different story in that profits and the associated benefits are typically only realized by the few. As a rule, these agreements have contributed greatly to an incredible consolidation of wealth since the 1980's wherein currently, fully half of the world's wealth is held by less than 70 people. Yes, you read that right -less than 70 people.

Going off this video alone, I may look into getting a Spyderco folder. The American work-knife market is just inundated with decent folders. Very easy to pass up something excellent. I don't believe in grand-scale trade agreements like the TPP. Too many cultures butting heads, lots of bad blood, very messy and wasteful. The only viable trade deals are one-on-one deals, where both participants are paying the appropriate tariffs.

I know you need new knives like Swiss cheese needs more holes, but please do check out the knifemaker MyThoTanLong here on KZfaq. He uses his unique heat treatment method to get knives in traditional steels much harder than normally seen, but still maintaining their toughness - his usual tests for knives in the 64-66 Rockwell are feathersticking steel nails, and cutting through bone. Thank you very much for your video.

About forty-five or forty-six years ago, I had a Japanese apple that remains the best I've ever eaten. I don't know what kind it was, but the skin was bright pink, rather than red. As for oranges, forget California. The best oranges we have, by far, are Florida oranges. And, yes, I like Donald Trump, too, and I voted for him.

Americans consume Florida oranges and Japanese consume California oranges. Maybe it's because California faces Japan just over the Pacific Ocean. TPP is a dangerous plot. Thanks.

Beautiful knife in R2, that steel looks amazing. I like my Japanese made Delica 4 in VG10 but I still really prefer a simple Opinel to Spyderco for foodprep. The handle is very comfortable, warm feeling and it has a classic look. I noticed in one of your old threads that you dont like the Opinel design Im curious why? I have a love/hate relationship with my Opinel sometimes when it swells up but if Im honest I find an Opinel no.8 in carbon with a patina will slice better than any knife I have ever tried it has a very special edge quality, aybe its the distribution of the carbides...I dont know, Its also a very safe knife around children because you can lock it open and lock it when it is closed. Their polished stainless 12c27 is also quite good but I cannot get it quite as sharp as the carbon. What are your thoughts?
@virtuovice
@virtuovice 7 жыл бұрын
I don't think Opinel's blade locking system is very safe. It can turn unintentionally and the blade can fold down to fingers. And I don't think its round handle stabilizes its cutting direction very surely. I agree with you that its stainless blade doesn't take a very keen edge. Anyway my most dislike in Opinel is its unstable locking system. Thanks.
@AaronIsaak47
@AaronIsaak47 7 жыл бұрын
virtuovice Thanks for your reply, I agree about the locking system, I have found that the lock ring can shift slightly when sufficient force is exerted on the blade when wood whittling for example, not a safe knife for a beginner but its never been an issue with apple peeling or picnics for me. Thanks for your reply.
