由老太爺為首的封建勢力，為了控制三名孫兒的婚姻而導致家破人亡。長房長子覺新因為媒妁之言而迎娶李瑞珏為妻，令愛人錢梅芬酸楚難當，病情加劇；三子覺慧與婢女鳴鳳暗定終生，可惜因階級之分無法成婚，鳴鳳更被逼另嫁他人，繼而絕望投河自盡；次子覺民與琴表妹為了自主婚姻，毅然離家出走，令老太爺一氣之下，命喪黃泉。與此同時，礙於長輩的迷信下，瑞珏被逼遷往柴房產子，終因設備不足而失救。覺慧及覺民不欲留下，決離家而去。

I am not sure, but I think 粵語片清潔運動 happened before 中聯. 清潔運動 was signed by many people, while 中聯 was comprised of only 20 something people. 中聯 was mostly about separation of dramatic actors from Cantonese opera stars.

The only 中聯 actresses who could not sing was Bak Yin and Wong Man Lei. Little Swallow Fly, Mui Yi, Ji Lor Lin, and of course Red Thread Girl all could sing. But these were not singing movies, so only one or two songs at most.

黃曼梨這個年輕的樣子無幾可見到, 印像中看到她十居其九都是母親或家婆. 我不肯定以前有無睇過這套電影. 但若果我無記錯, 就算有, 都應該沒有中文字幕. 我認為主持為這些電影加上中文字幕是極有意義的事, 我想看這些50-60年代的黑白片的人不會太多, 看的可能都是是年紀不輕, 可能聽力不佳.... 給主持"讚"👍👍👍

The entire cast, be they in a leading role or supporting role displayed a distinguished performance. Did you watch the movie (or read the book)? Ming Foong wanted to tell Cheung Ying, but the latter brushed her off because he was busy with the manuscript. While the 3 brothers were decent compared to the previous generation, they still lived in privilege and did not appreciate the hardship of the lower caste. They system encouraged people to be like the uncles. The grandfather demanded total obedience, no indpendence, no free thinking, and no incentive to excel, so it was natural for people to become like that. Once the Shek Kin character became the head of household, he became different from the other two,
