Forty years ago, the South Yuba River Citizens League began caring for the South Yuba River by advocating for dam removal and gaining Wild and Scenic protection. Today, their work encompasses the entire Yuba River watershed - from the Sierra crest to the valley floor. As the organization looks towards the next forty years, community members reflect on the future of their work in the face of climate change and protecting the river for future generations. Posed as a love letter to the river and the community that surrounds it, Yuba is the Heart considers what it means to love and be loved by a river

We grew up on the river and camp along it's shores above Edwards. We were always clean and picked up after others. Last i heard you could still camp above Edwards and be free and one with the river. A lot of times these groups with good intentions run it for our local community.I'm 69 years old and my kids learn to swim and camp there, they've seen the restrictions that have destroyed our way of life. They've noticed how south fork has lost so many freedoms since becoming a State Park. When it became a State Park all the NO SIGNS came up , we hated seeing this , but we also know theres to many people. If you want to save our community and quality of our lives stop subdivisions.

I was on the North Yuba this weekend 7/29/23 high water has settled and the forest is peaceful. Hope it remains that way for the next old guy Sit’n by the river just wunder’n on its beauty . Only thing that could make the hart throb more amongst all that beauty is if a bald eagle in flight down the river with my trout in his talons 🙃 Inspirational vid Thank You 😎

My family & I fished alot of rivers in this area back in the day; hike, camp & fish trout! Human effect; Grateful for those far oft days & memories.....

The Spanish named the river the Yuba because of the wild grapes that grow along it's shores in it's lower portion.

Hey Carl, while that notion has been talked about for years, we've since learned that the river's name actually more likely comes from the local tribe, the Nisenan, and their word for "waterway," 'uba seo.' It is spelled in early records as "Yubu" and applied to the river by 1844. Be sure to drop by the Uba Seo gallery in Nevada City to learn more about the Nisenan and their presence here far before the Spanish :)
