My favorite part is that Yugi had no real reason to call Kaiba, and just wanted to see what was going on. Not like he planned annoying dialogue before hand, given that all information past the opening of the school was brought up by chance. Guess he's just calling is friend for funzies? Kaiba didn't exactly object, either....Is this a common thing that they do?

To be fair, Slifer IS debatably the worst of these 3 already pretty meh monsters because it can force you to hold back otherwise useful cards just to keep it strong, while Obelisk is usually the best due to being the only one with consistent stats. It can be debated whether Ra is worse than Slifer or vice versa, but they're probably about the same assuming you built your deck around them properly. So on that front, the rankings are pretty solid.

@@metanightmare4454 Historically, it's true that Obelisk has been the best of the three, as it's the only god card that has seen competitive play (even though just a tiny tiny bit). For the longest time, Ra has been the worst by far, because Slifer actually has a really strong floodgate effect, but with all the recent mega ultra chicken support, Ra is probably the strongest right now.

@@metanightmare4454 I’d say slifer is the most scary atm dude to it just flat out being a very scary floodgate. If someone uses that plus imperial order, most decks would be screwed.

@@lucianofrancesco4742 but we're talking about the show gods that are way more powerful and at this point operating in an early GX meta so...yeah, they're gods. And on that scale, slifer does still have a bug or two that kaiba has seen exploited, and in a way, so does ra, where obelisk doesn't overreach and is a solid foundation you might build around, and still be a proper game master and not just a gimmick master...which is why obelisk was easiest to make useful irl actually. If you want fun and interesting skillful play, you gotta work with obelisk, and for all his ego, kaiba respects good gameplay.

@Renato Ramos Let's be fair: almost any deck from the original anime is trash. But with how much Kaiba's focus was on sabotaging his opponents deck and then beating hard, Obelisk fit in decently well as a massive stick to swing.

In Martin's video from which I took this from, he did have an editor's note saying that Ra is visually closer to a bird, which is why he went with just focusing on Slifer for the sake of the joke.

Technically speaking, they resemble those archetypes and Slifer is even named "Dragon" but they're all Divine Beasts with only Horakty being a god

Slifer is a dragon, an Eastern-like one but a dragon nonetheless, whereas Ra is... a hippogriff. Course I'm not gatekeeping, Ra can be a dragon if it wants, but when you see it for the first time you don't think dragon.

@@Dexuz more like a Phoenix (it has a Phoenix mode after all), all being related to the egyptian God of the Sun, Ra. But hey, dragons are cool and powerful so why not?

If you check out one of Martin's later GX review episodes (high twenties iirc) he mentions a foot injury requiring him to use a boot and cane at that time.

In the manga and anime, Slifer is a Dragon-type and Ra is a Machine-type. I'm not completely sure if that's what they meant here. But it's what I thought of.

Slifer received support in his structure deck, but Slifer is INCREDIBLY useful with it’s kill potential. He effectively bans the other players from playing monsters that have attack points from 1-2000 in attack mode. (For those who don’t know, 0 ATK monsters aren’t affected by Slifer because their points didn’t drop as a result of Slifer’s ability)

@@harrymillar4193 Slifer has always had potential. He is like Exodia, you need to plan to have him in your deck. Combos like "Layer of Darkness" + "Wicked Warden" along with tribute cost (like viruses) cards, which is hard to counter overall, makes it easy to take out the big threats. Not to mention his summon is protected AND his own newish spell attack. Heck he is a good combo piece for the Face Knight cards with their ability to restock the field with 3+ monsters AND a card that can normal summon any non-dark LV10 monster during any turn.
