I think what makes Yume nikki scary is that the horrors of the game are not from the outside world or a something that is a threat , but Madotsuki's own mind. That's scary by itself and that really reflects how tormented her psyche is because of all the abuse. Even in her own world she is not safe, and the atmosphere is very scary. That's what I love about psychology horror.

Isolation is the source of all my problems. I have tried to cure this, but am rejected by all aspects of humanity. Family, friends, and romance. All are goals that are beyond my reach. I was broken since birth and have only gotten worse with time. My life is one of many that is forgotten and will not be missed. Guess what I'm saying is, I haven't played Yume Nikki and I won't get the chance but she literally me frfr.

I feel for you my friend, Iam in a similar situation right now. My family and I have a very strained relationship, never had friends for the first 20 years of my life. I have some people I would call friends now, but most of those only rarely show interest in me. My love life is a travesty tbh. But I guess the only thing one can do is hang in there, and steadily work on improving one's own mental health and environment. Which is easily said, but incredibly hard to do. I wish you all the strength you need, and you can be proud of getting this far.

Man, when I was only 15 I got into LSD Dream Emulator-I wasn’t even a gamer but I was just an electronic music fan and tried it out because I’d heard of Osamu Sato. Now I’m a bit more literate in gaming and I can see that Yume Nikki has also crossed boundaries to influence other media of art.

This game literally made me who I am today, I've played it when I was a teen and I couldn't get it out of my head ever since For me, Yume Nikki is not quite about isolation or escapism, but a representation of our minds, the subconscious, the way our brain perceives reality and recreates it in our thoughts and fantasies, and, of course, dreams The way it's played is so meditative, I always find comfort in it, sometimes all I need to relax is just to walk around some surreal-looking, seemingly huge but in reality just looping locations without much thought or objective, it makes me feel like I don't always have to have a goal or strive for anything, I can just take my time and breathe and do nothing but daydream for a while

Fun fact, and I guess could be considered a mild correction on the pronunciation a little. The toriningen title for the chaser NPCs takes the Japanese words 鳥 (Tori) and 人間 (Nin-gen) which each mean “bird” and “human”.

damn, I was dead sure Kikiyama's music was influenced by Aphex Twin. This would be cool if actually happened. as for loneliness or isolation... it's fun to look back and remember how much it has affected my life. I've got much more human contact now than I had in my formative years, but solitude is still my comfort and guardian. That being said, Yume Nikki is one of the best things one might spend their lonely time with. It's disturbing, but strangely comforting or even nostalgic. Damn, I love it so much. there is a shitton of Lovecraft-inspired games which take his elder-gods-forbidden-knowledge side, but I'd like to see one inspired by his Dream Cycle, feelings of wistfulness and longing. It feels kinda like this game for me.

Lately, I've become reliant on my isolation. For nearly my entire conscious life, I had been chasing love, and had almost exclusively bad experiences both searching for it and from finding people. Now I live alone, I'm financially stable, things have been improving physically, but deep down I'm not always okay alone. I have grown to genuinely love myself, but I don't see much love outside of my own head, and so that's where I tend to stay. I escape. I go to work, I come home, and escape. That is my life right now. It's not sustainable. I need to find a tangible example of the beauty I know exists in this world.

Tbh it's giving agrephobia, the fear of leaving ones home. [I suffer with this] we refuse too leave our home because we create up this imagination that the world is out too get us. However when we our forced too leave it's both exhausting and exciting. Examples, the mall for most people is nothing more then excitement and happiness. For me [who again suffers from agrophobia] its fear and paranoia, wondering who or what is looking/stalking and etc. Some people dress up/listen too music or find any way possible too avoid people. [The knife could be repersation of us carrying walls or even defense in order too have this boundary be forced in place] [Great example of why the game portrays this phobia is the bird people. Aka people who we are force to speak/come in connection with. We our stuck in this hole until we speak and then....its over aka waking up from out hole of anxiety] . This fear is mostly commen in rape victims or ones who have traumatic things while outside. [Example seeing dead bodies like that random dead person, or the portion of uterus spreader around. Even though house area gives you the feeling of fear yet comfort we ourselves feel. We feel at home in our towns/living areas but we also feel very alienated] Agrephobia [may have spelt it wrong] has only now been taken seriously since covid as more people have been experiencing this mental disease. However some people get it so bad that suicide is what we think is the way. Im glad you brought attention too the game with you're platform especially because the interpretation can be positive for people.

Yume Nikki, I never got. I tried a few times to play. Too slow for me. It’s one of those internet only culture things. I also get “It’s an ExpErIenCe” I need more substance in my games. This video does make me wanna attempt it again. I just don’t like walking around aimless. Good video though, can’t wait on the other game to be covered

Okay, this might help you enjoy YK- There's a glitch that's really easy to perform using the bicycle power while sitting at the desk. It makes you move way faster, and it makes the wandering more bearable. Made a huge difference for me. If you do try YK again, I hope it helps.

Everything about Yume Nikki can't be interpreted or is completely subjective from one's one psych and experiences. Even Kikiyama, the creator, is a complete mystery. We don't even know if "Kikiyama" is a single person or multiple people. Yume Nikki does an good job at giving the audience the absolute bare minimum for a story, that being Madotsuki is a shutin Hikkikomori and that's it, we'll most likely get a more than less complete picture here, and that infullfilling feeling is oddly fulfilling, like a moment of clarity. Amazing video, will never get tired of these old indie games shrouded in mystery.

Yume is one of my favorite walking sims, and "walking sim" is typically used as an insult but that's just how I engage with the game. The visuals and music just make this perfect vibe, it so abstract and empty, all the NPC's mindlessly waddle around and the ones that do "respond" to you just make nonsense noises or strings of numbers. Do I feel that way because I've been so antisocial most of my life? IDK, I lack the ability to judge that myself, The game certainly makes me feel... something when I get sucked into it.
