Anyone who says anything bad about this because they have heard better, you should be ashamed. This guy puts so much hard work into his playing. Just because someone else is better doesn't mean you have the right to say its bad.... This is no way or form is bad. You know if you say anything bad about him you are worse. No one at his level of playing or beyond is ignorant enough to even give the impression they think hes bad.

I love to see Yundi Li playing. I believe that among the compositions of Chopin, the sonatas are the most difficult to interpret and Yundi Li’s performance is fantastic in this sonata. Thank you very much for posting this video of one of my favorite pianists.

Fantastic! Impeccable technique allows Yundi to play this music at his will, and get an outstanding result. Too fast? I have heard this sonata a thousand times in all sorts of tempos, and I like them all. Even in his rather fast interpretation, it is ALL THERE. Every nuance I recognize from slow "expressive" interpretations is present here. Good expression, good dynamics. A little unique, differentiated from other versions, and this is typical of Yundi Li.

Wonderful performance

In the sheet music, for the final movement, I think it says something like "Play as fast as you possibly can." If you're curious as to how fast is it possible to play notes on a piano, just listen to the 3rd movement of Chopin's Funeral March.

I imagine the last movement to be a series of quick images flitting through the mind, the life 'flashing before the eyes' as it were. There's a sort of simultaneous ascension and falling into death, into the final bang of... whatever comes after.

beautifully performed but there is no need to speed up the performance of this artist. some of the slower parts of this sonata are so beautiful and give you the chills inside, let those musical moments stretch to the stars beyond from which such talent originates.

There was a 1st movement or half a first movement applause...interesting...but I have heard the Russians used to applause sections of a piece..by the way and more importantly..this was wonderfully played..beautiful left hand rolling rythms.

The asian Berezovsky. I'm in awe, I discovered him playing Liszt's "La Campanella" : it's simply stuning. This version of the Chopin's second sonata is not my favorite, though. However, I still appreciate much listening to it. The march is very nicely played.

I'm the first to admit my tin ear, but I hear nothing in this performance to fault. I don't blame the audience for erupting at the end of the first movement; The energy was there, the enthusiasm was there, the emotion was there. It was spontaneous and inevitable.

Fantastic performance. Chopin is a composer whose talents I receive as bittersweet. He stumbles across brilliance, then destroys it with his tendency to gravitate to chaos and disorder. It's infuriating, but sometimes beautiful.

It's sad that not all audience know about this nowadays...

as he himself said, despite of the culture difference, it's the very humanity allows him to interpret the spirit of music, either occidental or oriental. PS: we need to be trained and learn how to appreciate the music without obvious melodic. Classical music is a beautiful but also esoteric.

There supposed to be a way to play this piece in the way that Chopin intended by following all the marks, tempo, etc... But all the performances of this piece are extremely different and I am kind of confused which one I like the most.

I'm sure it's just a glitch in the technology that plays this video... But I have fun thinking that this man is moving outside of time like some kind of superhero as his image jumps around from place to place on my screen.
