I remember when this song came out. I was in my friend's basement smoking weed with him and he says "bro, i found this new artist and you just have to listen and watch this" and he put this on. And for the last six years I always come back to this song. No matter what's going on in my life I know I can spark something up and listen to this and for a little under 5 minutes everything just feels better. This song always makes me smile.

People will never realise how bad the vaporwave era had us tumblr kids in a chokehold. My Facebook is still full of heavily edited pics of myself. Yung lean was ahead of his time. I’m so emotional writing this right now. I was 13 when I started listening to him and now I’m 23. Shit was so simple back then. Wish I could go back. The fashion , the vibe , the community. Sure the song makes not much sense, but I can say the video sends out a powerful message to certain people. For those who don't understand, He refers to 2001-2003 a lot and relates it to the name sad boys because it was a very emotional time filled with nostalgia and great memories that can't be brought back the same way as it was back then. The song is about nostalgia and how fast time has changed. I love watching this video because I feel it brings me back to the "good 'ol days." In my opinion, I think the song is titled "Hurt" because it makes people, including me, hurt on the inside, nostalgia is a very sad and depressing feeling.. Also relevant to "suicideyear" beats.

Mannn the confidence and brilliance yung lean had to express himself through his love for mid/late 90's and early 2000's culture is seriously special. The combination of vaporwave, Asian culture, nintendo(pokemon and smash bros), his willingness to embrace and share his sadboy soul and aesthetic, and his fashion choices. This. It's a fucking masterpiece. It's far more than a random WTF clip. This guy understood it all. The way he used elements of his very own culture such as pokemon card, video game stuff and japanese subtitles. The way some part are completely delirious and some other are poetic such as this flower at 3:08. The way he included in the clip the making of it. The way the whole thing is a big finger against the usual "clean" stuff TV sell us all the time. This is genius, true, raw personnal expression and few people would be able to make such a profound thing as he did. There is clearly more art in this than in the whole MTV Top 50.

Time has only proved this more true. With the insane political correctness and the mainstream dumbing down of everything you must wonder where are all the yung leans hiding?
Yung Lean created a trend that we only thought exists in our imagination. He perfectly creates awesome music with the beautiful nostalgy of the early 2000s. For some reason, whenever I listen to Yung Lean, I feel myself in the early 2000s, like 2000-2008, when I was a kid.
@numberiforgot3 жыл бұрын
There’s a ton of people including me that feel the same way, it’s like his signature theme
Whats funny is early 2000s hip hop is absolutely nothing like this. Its all samples and glossy over produced garbage with exception of the real shit that was coming out of NYC.
