One of my absolute favorite things about this opening is how the colors end up getting more vivid each episode, as gradually, the world starts seeming bright and vibrant again, as Yuuri starts believing in himself and working towards his dream, and Viktor's love helps him to remember what he loved so much about ice skating - and the world - in the first place. As someone who suffers from sometimes crippling anxiety the metaphor of it leeching the color from your world is so apt. It can make it so you loose focus on what makes your world beautiful, and you unconsciously put up blinders so you can only see the grey mass of your fear.

I get that Mappa didn’t make much money from YOI due to being like last in the long line of studios and companies involved with the production, and then COVID, and now with them literally being a sweatshop where animators want to kill themselves, but it does hurt me man. I was in middle school when YOI came out, and although I was a little late to the party, I absolutely loved YOI and watched it both sub and dub like 3 times each. Read fanfic, consumed copious amounts of fanart, listened to covers, got me into other anime and BL adjacent content, found out a friend watched it and eagerly talked with him about it, everything. Learning that they also did Banana Fish is… another heartbreaker, because is shows MAPPA essentially forgot where they came from. I liked AoT, and JJK is great, but animation isn’t the only thing that matters. It’s the people behind it, the love for the fans, the love for the media itself that matters. Rest in peace History Makers, Yuri never got his gold, but he got a plethora of friends, wonderful rivals, and a man with a heart worth more than any gold in the world. Viktuuri shall go on in my heart.

I was 12 years old when Yuri!!! on Ice was released, and I remember being a confused mess over alot of things, my own sexuality, myself, life etc. This anime brought me some comfort to it all, and I quickly became obsessed with it and couldn't wait to see more. I'm 20 now, in my first year of college. Now knowing that 12 year old me will never know what happens next makes me so sad. Fuck you MAPPA.

The best part of this Anime, personally I feel, is how they draw their muscles. They kept both Yuri and Victor masculine in an attractive way and didn't make it ,like how a lot of bl, one too feminine and one too masculine. They kept the balance and it's so attractive and still conveyed their relationship to us and didn't make it like something that's peculiar. And the way they're drawn in the opening song is just 👌

I love this because it's really easy to sing along to and super catchy and inspiring, it really gets you hyped (like a sports anime opening should) and it fits extremely well. I personally think it's a risk to chose a song in English for an opening, but this was perfect. It's also a great way to cater to the American audience while staying Japanese. The animation, while simple, is gorgeous. Some things don't need lots of flourishes to be good, and this is a great example. Overall, amazing opening for an amazing anime!!!
