May be a bit late and unlikely anyone sees this but a quick answer to how oil rigs work if anyone was still confused. Oil rigs are boats, not structures, they have that same boat like hull (actually 2 if them) but they rest under the water as that allows them to sit far more stably, however if you ever look up an oil rig moving, you'll find those hulls actually raise up out of the water, after that you have the ballast control deck, including the engineering station which is also technically the helm. When drilling, the divers will also secure tethering anchors to the sea floor to keep the rig in place, they're taught just enough to prevent the whole thing from being anble to sink or rise against them, after which they simply thread the drilling apparatus down through the centre.
