September 23, 2007. Grass Hill Alpacas in Haydenville, Massachusetts, USA. Their website is www.grasshillalpacas.com. Very nice people. Alpacas make a great investment. If you don't have the space they will board your alpacas for you. And you can visit you alpacas. A better investment than the stock market.
Baby alpacas (called crias) have got to be amongst the cutest babies on the planet. So, get ready to watch cute.
Alpacas have buckteeth. They hum. They yawn. They're curious and friendly. And they're so cute! They were constantly coming up to me while I was making this video. The little ones sit in my lap. The big ones to nuzzle my shoulder and push at me for attention. But, they don't like being petted on he neck.
Although they do spit, I wasn't spat at by any of them. I have been spat at by llamas and camels. Believe me, not fun at all. Really sticky and gross with an "Oh God, yecch!" reaction.
Google alpaca farms in your area and take your kids (an excuse to take yourself, really -- and if you don't have kids just go). Everyone I've met who raises alpacas is more than welcoming and accommodating. They love to have visitors.
And, yes, that really is that alpaca's yawn.
Have fun, Yvette.
