As a fellow Hawaiian, I grew up idolizing Yvonne Elliman as one of the first talents that made it off the "Island" to become a mainstream star (and not exploited or typecast for her race, but valued for her pure talent). Wish I could meet her before I die.

In retrospect, I probably thought Marcella Detroit was Eric's wingwoman in 'sheriff too. So, how wrong I was. This well rounded piece has taught me a lot, especially the Tony Debart aspect which was over my head too. Therefore, you can teach a middle-aged old dog new tricks...fact.

The song she performs so beautifully in this video is from the eponymous "Blind Faith" album. I love Steve Winwood's singing on that album, but she tops his version.

Love Yvonne!! For the historical record, Mary Magdalene was not a prostitute, it's not in the Bible anywhere. You can google "Mary Magdalene prostitute" and hundreds of websites will pop up to refute this accusation. It was totally made up by a certain pope in the late 500s AD. He intertwined 3 women of the New Testament (one of whom was a prostitute) into 1 person, and called her Mary Magdalene. The current pope finally apologized for this trashing a few years ago. This false story has been repeated everywhere for going on 1400 years now, in movies, books, media, and even sermons today! I had to correct my own pastor on this recently, for which he humbly apologized for the following Sunday. The truth will set you free!! Now, everyone go out and buy all of Yvonne's records & CDs...
@timothycharlesellis59404 жыл бұрын
Agreed. In Luke 7:36- there was an unnamed woman at the home of Simon the Pharisee who was known to be a prostitute, , and with whom Jesus associated. The Magdalene character in JCS is a composite of different individuals.

@ROGER20954 жыл бұрын
I owned a record store in those days and the wholesale price of Jesus Christ Superstar was $7.00. If the 1/2 of one percent was on the gross, then that means she'd have been paid $35,000 for every million albums sold. Heck, in those days £100 was $280 so, at 0.05% to reach £100 all they would have had to sell was 8,000 albums. The bottom line is, she should have paid attention in school! Then again, marrying the president of RSO Records wasn't a bad move.
@DJDanceClassic4 жыл бұрын
@@ROGER2095 it would be from the profits. that would be $1 profit ( you know how they work ) so 0,5 cent per record. 6 million cents, so 60.000 dollar instead of 300!
