Soul music by the true Jewish. The true blue. ( meaning, can’t be more true Jewish than the Yemenite Jews! They are inspirational! Proud people, who never stick their fingers in anyone pie! Going by the moto: live and let live! Very tolerant people, with enormous positive views. Generally Happy people. Impossible not to like/Love them!!

The writer of this beautiful and blessing song is Dunash ben Labrat. He was a medieval Jewish commentator, poet, and grammarian of the Golden age of Jewish culture in Spain. He was, according to Moses ibn Ezra, born in Fes, Morocco. The name Dunash being of Berber origin. In his youth he travelled to Baghdad to study with Saadia Gaon ( who wrote extensively in Arabic and Hebrew). Dunash is called the founder of Spanish Hebrew poetry. He first introduced Arabic meter into Hebrew poetry. Traditional Arabic poetry was built on interspersing long and short vowels. This meter formed the basis for all subsequent medieval Hebrew poetry. At the time, however, it opened him up to severe criticism, particularly among the students of Menahem ben Saruq, that he was corrupting the Hebrew language by introducing Arabic forms, and changing traditional Biblical styles to conform to Arabic meter and rhyming schemes. For instance, in his classic poem "Dror Yikra," he begins the second line: Ne'im shim'chem ("pleasant [is] your name"), with a modifying form of the adjective "pleasant," where properly it should be na'im !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HE WILL PROCLAIM FREEDOM writer - Dunash Ib'n Labrat Z"L He will proclaim freedom for all his children And will keep you as the apple of his eye (x2) Pleasant is your name and will not be destroyed repose and rest on the Sabbath day repose and rest on the Sabbath day Seek my sanctuary and my home Give me a sign of deliverance (x2) Plant a vine in my vineyard look to my people, hear their laments look to my people, hear their laments He will proclaim freedom... Tread the wine-press in Bozrah and in Babylon that city of might crush my enemies in anger and fury on the day when I cry, hear my voice Plant, Oh God, in the mountain waste Fir and acacia, myrtle and elm Give to those who teach and to those who obey and to those who obey abundance peace, like the flow of a river abundance peace, like the flow of a river Repel my enemies, oh zealous God fill their hearts with fear and despair then we shall open our mouths and fill our tongues with Your praise Know wisdom, that your soul may live and it shall be a diadem for your brow keep the commandment of your Holy One observe the Sabbath, your sacred day.

I have seen claims that this version of "Ki/Im Eshmerah Shabbat" is Iraqi, but I think it's more likely Yemenite in origin. Like most Yemenite songs--and unlike most Iraqi songs--this melody is what musicologists describe as "strophic," which means a simple melody that does NOT change between verses and chorus. Does anyone know anything about its history? Todah raba!

"Tread the winepress in the city of Batzrah (Basra) and also Bavel that arose to strength." a missed opportunity to bring the Redemption. Gog W. Bush Jr. sent the British to be punished for the crime of closing the gates to Israel before the Shoah. But Gog destroyed Bavel (Hussein) in Fallujah (Pumpeditha) and he was hung on 9 Tevet 5767. But because of our behavior against our brethren in Gaza (Disengagement), the Redemption was delayed to the next Sabbatical cycle.
