My name is Yoyoka, I'm a 10 year old drummer from Japan.
I have a lot of respect for Neil Peart❣️
I am sorry he has gone to heaven, but I would like to dedicate a cover of this wonderful song to him🥁

She made two appearances in The Ellen DeGeneres Show in LA in January and May 2019 and was praised by Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters. Also, the first overseas live at the long-established live house "Whisky A Go Go" in Los Angeles was a great success.
In April 2019, she was selected as Newsweek Japan's "100 Japanese people respected by the world", the youngest in history.
At the age of eight, she made endorsement contract with drum makers Pearl and VIC FIRTH,as the world's youngest,and also made endorsement contracts with Zildjian, CYMPAD and DW.
At the Pearl booth of the world's largest musical instrument show "NAMM Show" held in Anaheim in 2020, she performed as the youngest female, only Japanese drummer.
The impact of "Yoyoka" continues to spread to the world.
Her favorite drummers are John Henry Bonham, Chris Coleman, Nate Smith, Chad Smith and David Grohl.
Her dream is to travel around the world and have sessions with people all over the world. Her recently dream is to play at the Tokyo Olympics.

It seems like a natural progression to me. She started with Bonzo and mastered his patterns, then she figured out Steward Copeland's insanity. Neal Peart seemed like a logical peak to strive for. Living inside the music is a precise description of her playing. I’ve used different language to describe that about her. It’s like she’s dancing to the music but using drums instead. She’s the most natural drummer I’ve ever seen. This is aside from the fact that she’s a technical monster; I’m talking about something else, like I think you are.
@Jesse-B
@Jesse-B 3 жыл бұрын
@@koshersalaami The technical details such as the foot shimmy on those precise double kicks, and that apparently sentient high hat, certainly set her apart, but Yoyoka's talent runs far deeper than technique, as you so rightly pointed out.

I agree with your assessment: "This is once in a blue moon talent". She is a great talent, full of joy, yet hard working, humble and kind. However, a tiny correction: she was 10 years old, not 11. AFAIK, she's still at Elementary school. She played a little bit of YYZ recently. I think on a live stream? It was effortless for her. I was genuinely shocked. Happy New Year to You and Yours.

@howard weitzell I would love to see a one-off set with Yoyoka sitting in with the band for a few songs. Lots of bands have been doing live streaming sessions with each band member at their own homes during the pandemic. Somebody needs to figure out how to get Yoyoka connected to some of the bands she has covered so she can actually play with them next time. That would be so awesome!

The JOY!!! Biggest lesson she has for us all is not how to play the drums... it’s how to play ANYTHING.

I loved this and I don't even like Rush. It reminded me of Phil Collins with Brand X or Bruford with King Crimson.

Those who disliked this video is plain ENVIOUS to a 10 year old kid. This kid is trying to pay tribute to the one of the best drummers of all time. RIP Neil Peart.

"This kid is trying to pay tribute to the one of the best drummers " That's probably in your mind. I don't wanna be so negative, but the comments here are over the top. She probably didn't know Neil thru his 40 year career. This channel is probably just cashing in on the novelty of a 10 y/o girl. (I just checked. Looks like this is the only Rush song she has on her channel)

Many drummers cover this song well, but nothing close to this kid. I love the "added" Yoyoka ghost notes! She made this song all her own now. Made Neil wake up from the grave and slightly smile before he went back to eternal sleep. Just an incredible wonder! LOVED BY MANY.

I remember the first time I saw this little squirt YEARS ago when her channel started. I told my daughter "Watch this kid...She's gonna be playing YYZ someday and killing it." It just happened and it's oddly surreal to see Yoyoka 2 feet taller and murdering this song after Neil's unfortunate passing. Years later and I'm still trying to wrap my brain around this young lady's talent.
