+Mike Werthman could you pour half the oil into the crank and the other in the resoiver?
@outdoormike05058 жыл бұрын
Marshall Watson No, the breather bolt on the resevoir is small and would be a total pain to pour into, and yamaha's instructions say to put it all in the crank. It will cycle itself through pretty quickly
@marshallwatson2568 жыл бұрын
Mike Werthman oh ok I didn't know

hey mike great video dude, do you know how much oil to put in if your only changing the oil? not the oil filter along with it.
@outdoormike050511 жыл бұрын
depends, where do you live, most importantly what is the range of temps (outdoor air temp) that you ride in? I would recommend full synthetic in any case, 10W-40 is the average best all around temperature oil. I use 10W40 in my bike, My dads LTZ400, and my cousin runs it in his CRF450F. That's what I'd use unless youre riding in extreme heat (desert) or cold (snow/arctic)

What model and year bike is that front fender off?
@outdoormike050511 жыл бұрын
it does look like it, but its not. It has a fiberglass exhaust wrap, which is real nice to protect the pipe from dents and stuff but the guy before me who owned it raced it it wet red clay conditions and when it slung up at the pipe from the front wheel, it bakes into/onto the wrap and it doesnt come off

This video was super helpful but I have one question. I am trying to ensure I have used the right amount of oil. I have conflicting versions of at what level the oil should be in the window when warm, filled, etc. I did everything you have done in this video correctly except I cannot see at what level the oil is in your window? Help!
@outdoormike05059 жыл бұрын
Shane Hayes i never use the window, the glass is always cloudy, inconsistent when hot/cold, and its hard to find a clear explanation of how to read it correctly. The bike holds 1.05L on a change, 1.15L with filter change, and 1.30L with a new engine rebuild total. If you properly drained the oil and filled with the appropriate capacity there should be no need to worry. as for the window, My manual says: CHECKING THE ENGINE OIL LEVEL 1. Start the engine, warm it up for several minutes, and then turn off the engine and wait for five minutes. 2. Place the machine on a level place and hold it up on upright position by placing the suitable stand under the engine. 3. Inspect: • Oil level Oil should be up to the full level in the check window "1". Level check window is not full. → Add 0.2 L (0.18 Imp qt, 0.21 US qt) of oil.

@rdsousa110 жыл бұрын
good video mate but don't you need to check the oil pressure by loosening the oil pressure bolt then running the engine for a minute or so then checking that oil is seeping out from that bolt??
@outdoormike050510 жыл бұрын
yes, the manual does say to do that. Its obviously important to check oil pressure to make sure your engine is lubricated... if its not I think we all know the tragedy that can happen... ouch. I guess i just got lazy and assumed that my bike ran perfect all this time and shouldnt fail now. Of course, its NEVER a bad idea to check and you shouldnt assume things. my mistake. I guess I also figured it has as much chance to fail at any point during a ride as it did while changing the oil. thanks for the watch and comment!

Nice video but a suggestion. When you replace your oil filter, be sure to also remove the remaining oil in the oil filter compartment. That is typically where debris in the oil lie.
@outdoormike05058 жыл бұрын
+Bunty Burger yep. maybe I did not show that too well, but most of the time, the oil in the compartment will drain out during the change and whatever doesn't, I wipe out.

whats the best way to get a stripped crank case drain bolt off? ive recently bought a yz250f and cant seem to figure out how to get off the stripped drain bolt to put the new bolt in with the tight space between the bolt and frame
@ryanwalters41099 жыл бұрын
I did the same exact thing when I was putting the coolant drain bolt back in. I broke the head off. We got it out by drilling it out with a small drill bit, but be really care full because you can ruin your threads. Do it slowly and be suuuppper careful!! Good luck
@lilbissell129 жыл бұрын
My drain bolt on the crank case has about an inch between it and the frame so the only way to get in there is at an angle and I'm afraid it will hit the case if I try to drill it out.. Talk about a pain in the ass..
@s7r1k3r669 жыл бұрын
Taylor Bissell Try cutting a slot into the bolt then using a flat head screw driver to get it out.
