Zeorian Harvesting & Trucking

The third and final segment of the 1988 summer wheat harvest.
The girls and I made a trip out to see the harvesters over the 4th of July holiday. We stayed a few days and pretended to be part of the crewOne of the crew realized there
are consequences to not having their head in the game. One too many mishaps earned him a ticket on the bus home.
Due to severe drought in Montana, there was no reason to make the trip to Jordan - much like 2021 was for us. Therefore, on July 16, the crew headed back home to Grand Island.

Those were the days my friend, we thought they’d never end. Thanks for the memories Tracy. I think times were precious and much simpler than our society’s these days. Still think back of the old threshing bees when I was younger, those meals we shared when harvesting were like a social. Everything is bigger and faster, but not better now. God Bless.

Hey Tracy, I've loved your videos of MF combines harvesting. Our farm had a Massey Harris 92 for over 15 years. The years of 1973-1975 were good for the farm. Record yields and good prices afforded us an upgrade to a brand new Massey Ferguson 750 in 1974. We used this setup for 25 years. Health issues forced me out of farming but I often think of those years as the best of my life. There was nothing more satisfying than to put in a long, hard day of harvesting and realize you've done something extraordinary. I haven't felt that way since and probably never will. I miss farming but don't miss the stress. Thank you for your videos Tracy. Take care and be safe.

Makes you appreciate the past that much more. Looking at these old farmsteads with these elderly farmers they were truly what made this country great. And your harvest crew everything was neat as a pin and all the matching straight trucks. Oh a the Greyhound bus ride home for the fella who broke the truck. Thanks for sharing

I can remember the drought in 1988 here in MN. It hit the crops pretty good. I remember the river mile east of us dried up. We drove 3 wheelers over 3 miles of river bottom. It was just like a road it was so dried up. We had a couple of shallow lakes dry up also. It was in the 100's when we were combining wheat. Thanks for the old videos. They bring back lots of good memories.

I am loving these wholesome videos. I did the harvest run from 1999-2001. Some of my favorite times in my life So cool to see the machinery My first combine I ever ran was a silver cab MF 760. Dad let me thrash all the barley and wheat that year. 1991 800ac The a/c wasn’t working very good at good times. I wouldn’t trade those days in for anything Thank you so much for these reminiscent memories

I have really enjoyed your videos, Tracey. We had a New Holland TR 80, that I liked, that's why I started watching your videos. But the last 3 videos was where my heart really was. Massey Furgeson was our go to combine. Dad had an 80 self propelled, we had two 410's, and then traded on 410, for a 510. When they brought out the 750's we owned one of them, really liked it. Then we had an 850, and an 860, then got soft in the head bought a 9500 JD, now the farm has had two rotary Massey's. So again thanks for the memories!!

We bought one of those Ford trucks from grandpa and it was used in our earlier years when we started on our own. We nicknamed it “Henry”. Henry went with us for quite a few years. A friend of ours in Montana bought it from us so it lives there now. Every time I get in the cab, it smells the same and brings back the weirdest feelings! I learned how to drive truck in one of those. It was part of the family. So silly. Here’s some reading when you have nothing else to do. 😂 www.nebraskawheatie.com/color-green/

@@ZeorianHarvestingTrucking my dad had a guy running one of his 55 combines wooden bat reel, guy wanted off early to go to a town dance, rain was coming dad said no, about 30 minutes later the hired guy ran the header into a fence post and broke every bat on the reel, dad fired him, about 30 years later dad opened a barbwire gate into a field cut a circle around and ran the gate right into the header, I said can you imagine if a hired hand had done that he said yeah I would never believe it was an accident;)

I can’t answer that question. However, Jim and I have traded at least every other year - except there were a couple of times we did run them three years. The third year starts to cost money in repairs.

Excellent videos of a harvest time long past. Notice how the men don't have big belly's, and all wear muscle shirts, not exposing fat,,, but the real muscle deal. Lots of hard work then. Did the older gentleman with the tan overalls operate a combine? Or was he there to mainly assist when needed. I like how you gave the idiot truck driver a bus ticket home. He really couldn't complain about that after the stupid trick he did. Again, great series of videos of the old days!! Two thumbs up.

That was my grandpa. He did run his combine. But had someone there to relieve him if and when he got tired. He was the reason we were all out there. If you haven’t watched the first video in 1988, you should. It has a little more history tacked onto the front of it and talks about how this all came to happen. Thanks for your note, Tim!

Great videos from the past.I have farmed all my life in Wisconsin, 1988 was the driest I ever saw. I'm 73 now. My dad bought a Massey Harris 82 new early 60s maybe late 50s. I noticed one in one of the videos on the back of a truck.I think I might have the manual for it yet.I know the reel for it is laying in the upstairs of a shed. On a normal year how many acers did you combine and did you only do wheat?

Were your trucks all identical and how far did you have to haul the grain then? Did and are you combining any small grains other than wheat? Did you ever lose a combine to a fire? Thanks for the memories.
@ZeorianHarvestingTrucking
@ZeorianHarvestingTrucking 2 жыл бұрын
In those years, the trucks were the same. They were two 1973 models and one 1974. My grandpa bought those new. The GMC was ours (me and Jim). We bought it used. As far as how far did they haul? Just depends on whether or not there was on-farm storage (grain bins) or not. And where the fields were located. Sort of a hard question to answer. No, we never lost a combine to fire. I believe Grandpa had one that got wrecked once. But that was way before my time.
