i inherited a pair of XLS-215's from my father and their nuts. having those woofers really makes a difference. Those are pretty good, IMO, considering they were only made for people with very limited space. They also still sell them to this day, which is cool but their a premium price.

I have 2 2 way 15 inch loudspeakers from Cerwin Vega and oh boy, plus, Cerwin vega's subs are crazy but you need powerful stuff for them

I still have a pair of D7's from the 80's. Probably their best home speaker ever. Look them up and see for yourself.

My brother has 15" 2way cerwin vegas and I'm pretty sure they could knock a small house off its foundation. They sound great to match. The only drawback are the red foam surrounds which he had to replace twice. I don't know why cerwin vega can't use red rubber surrounds.

I going to use them as desktop speaker steup with my nad D3020 v1,! paired with SVS sealed sb1000, today my bookshelfs are Boston Acoustics A25 wich got great rewiev for its soft sounding trebble, (perfect for nearfield listening) but now 4 years later i want more TREbble!, Should i go for A pair of klipsch and pay 450 euro, or maby kefs for 450 ? i have put portplugs in my bostons since they are close to wall, lost some boomy base, but dont need that when i use my sub, ! The ProStax line from 18 years ago when Stanton took over CV before Gibson purchased them, are pretty nice sounding with a solid front-end. I run them with NAD amp and preamp and they do sound musical. Most of the boxes are ticked. No real offenses. I have the 123's, a three-way with Eminence drivers in a Baltic Birch cabinet. Purchased them new for $600 (for the pair!) from Hollywood DJ's in CA in 2004 and they have rocked 100's if not 1000's of private parties, including some nightclub DJing. They represent one of my greatest returns on investment in 25 years of pro DJ work. They are still going strong today after sustaining a couple hard hits along the way. I have Dynaudio, Paradigm, Beovox, B&W, NHT, JBL, and EAW speakers, either powered by NAD, McIntosh, QSC, or Crest Audio. I own Conrad Johnson and Digital Audio Labs gear. I've played musical instruments. I've listened to TAD and Klipsch systems, so I know good and bad sound when I hear it. CV made "some" decent stuff. I've used their V-152 MKII 2 way speaker and Sub15 system with a rebuilt and updated Bozak CMA 10-2DL rotary mixer behind a Denon front-end. With a NAD 218 THX powering the tops and a QSC 1300 USA amp anchoring the bottom half kegs coupled together, those cheap CV speakers sounded damn good bi-amplified, and musical too. We gutted the internal passive crossovers in favor of an active Ashly XR-1001 2-way x-over (another understated product). Placement and a solid front-end is everything!

Don't forget the exclamation point on Cerwin-Vega!

The right speaker's woofer looked like it jumped inward whereas the left speaker's woofer looked like it jumped outward on drum hits. So maybe the speakers are out of phase.

As someone who’s owned multiple pairs of CV’s over the years it kills me when people refer to the color of the woofer surrounds as being orange 😩 And the Screwdriver? Dude no you got me cringing over here 😂 I’d highly recommend using two plastic credit/debit cards to wedge in on both sides and gently pry until they pop off so that you don’t scratch, scuff or damage the speakers! I’m just extremely meticulous about how I handle my speakers I’m not doggin on you man. I like the channel and the way you review speakers, you have a no-bullshit speak your mind attitude and you’re not pretentious. In fact, partly due to your review on the Ohm’s I’m saving up for a pair of the Walsh Tall 3000’s. Can’t fuckin wait! Easy listening and rock on. P.S… the woofer foam is red 😆

The bass issue could be cos you have them backfiring in to a window? Maybe closer to a solid wall would be better?

A question for zeos or anybody in the audience, I recently got the R2R-11 as my first headphone amp, and I find it to be exceptionally well built and produce exceptional sound. Just one question, is it normal for it to have audio imbalance(stronger on the right quieter on the left) when the volume knob is at or near 7 o’clock. I’m using the R2R to drive my HD 6xx’s if anybody is wondering

you should try cerwin vega 12tr or especially s1 from the 70´s, 1215 mk from the 90's also the dc15 are great models and a lot better than any other cerwin vega. have had the 12tr up against xtz divine 100.33.

For party speakers, buy some 10" glitter cone foam surround Titan speakers from Parts Express, and put them in a sealed 2.9 cubic foot box. Those should be able to take some power and be decent for music. (F3 of 47 Hz) Certain Cerwin Vegas had more loud than they had bass. That pair has that horn characteristic to the sound, but not too much. "Yeah you're ugly, but you don't sound as bad as you look!" -- The book of killer Zeos pickup lines!

I'll be honest your comparing book shelf speakers to other bookshelf speakers. The main problem I see is most people don't get 100% all Cerwin Vegas everything. They mix match. The reason there is no low end in the bookshelf speakers is that they made them to go with their subs and towers which already have low end but lack in high end. They made their bookshelves to go with their line of towers and subs nobody else's.

If you are color blind, it is not important in the big context, because your dissolves are red, and I know who the orange looks like! Otherwise, any major Cerwin vega will sound so much better with Amarra 4 through Tidal HIFI that has a good EQ and they will GUARANTEED sounds like a dream for a very low price

I think I have had my Cerwin Vega XLS 215 for about 3 years now... I REGRET NOTHING!!! I just can't imagine having "Better" Speakers for similar price that can cover that many genres of music and not annoy you in any way. I am yet to find headphones that can cover that many music genres without annoying you.

Move the Cerwins closer to the corners, or walls. You will get better bass reproduction. The stands, out in free air, eliminate the bass.

many people like to bad mouth Cerwin Vega! especially the newer models. I own the SL 15's and power them with a Crown xli2500 and they sound great at all levels, and they are AWESOME for home theater fronts. Sub woofer is pointless. I think most of these people have never heard them, or the ones they heard weren't powered properly.

Sorry but knocking CV is weak sauce when you think Kanto is high end. Both cheap and sound fine. If you have 5 G's to blow on some Morel's than you'll hear a difference.

Your description of the old CV sound is really unfair, because that was only their poor designs. Their good designs were very well balanced and sounded superb. I now have the SL5M, their cheapest and smallest bookshelf speaker, that I paid $150 for a pair, but are now $199 on Amazon, and they are the most lifelike and natural sounding bookshelf speaker I've had at any price, when paired with my Integra receiver. They don't have a lot of low bass, but the bass they do have is very fast, punchy, and tuneful. And, they are very dynamic, with absolutely astounding midrange, with the most three dimensional imaging I've ever heard in my room, that makes vocals, lead guitars, and other solo instruments in the center sound like they're literally floating in the air in front of me. Couple that with great detail, the most natural and musical tonal balance ever, and you have the cheapest speaker I've ever owned, creating the most lifelike sound I've ever had in my room, that sounds more like live music, and outperforms more expensive speakers I've had from Tannoy, B&W, Monitor Audio, Wharfedale, KEF, Celestion, Polk, Paradigm, and PSB. The best audio purchase I've ever made. They do need a bit of break in, as they sound a bit muddled and confused at first, but, after they open up, they are pure magic.
