Z is a real-time strategy game developed by the Bitmap Brothers and published by Virgin Interactive and GT Interactive in 1996. Unlike traditional real-time strategy games, you don't need to collect resources and build structures to produce your army. The goal is to capture the flags to take over the territories and to finish the enemy. The more territories you control, the less time you need to produce soldiers and tanks. Z has been released for MS-DOS, Sony PlayStation and Sega Saturn.

Only played the demo of this charmingly quirky little RTS back in 1996, but I really appreciate the innovative focus on tactics/capturing territories as well as the distinctive art design and humerous tone of the game.

This, Dominion: Storm over gift 3, Dark Colony, KKnD, Imperium galactica and all C&C´s - Those were my strategy games when I was really young

One of the best strategy games ever made. It was so cool idea to try to manage as many territories as possible to speed up manufacturing instead of gathering resources like usually in strategy games.

Z+Z Steel Soldiers collection for $1.49 on steam right now! I really loved this game. Addictive but just a few levels later it was a lot more frustrating :P

Aah this game was awesome, still remember some moments, tank driver being super stupid to always shoot those rocks in the air and then sometimes it would land exactly on the tank and it would explode.. losing the game

Yeah, I thought it's will be some Ork race in expansion. but they decided to stay on mechs only. Old games is so good. Its would be cool "Hulks vs Bots" or something like that

Why isnt there more RTS like this. This game was different and it was actually pretty fucking awesome, not to mention tactical. This game is probably the RTS where i had the most intense and close battles. just barely securing a factory to win.

This game was tooth-breakingly difficult for me as a kid. I think I still managed to beat it though, with some save-scumming involved.

Thanks for the video! I've watched a couple other Z videos after this and I feel this one showcases the game the best. Can you share what kind of hardware (or dosbox configuration) you recorded this on? The music sounds different than the other videos I've watched. Much more retro and catchy. :-)

I used to play the PlayStation demo of this back in the day, and it took me countless attempts to beat it since I didn't know how to change factories to build better units, but the feel of accomplishment I had when I finally beat it...

Played this demo on ps1 for so many hours ..the best way of gaining control fast is send grunts as fast as possible to the middle 3rd square and gain control of the gun turret ..then with the rest spread out to gain the other territories ..the blue will focus on the gun turret and not gain any positions Build a defensive line and then with your lower bases just build tanks

There is a remake online called the ZOD engine. You can play LAN and over the Internet. It works on windows 7/8 and you can choose higher screen resolutions. Just google it or youtube some videos.

On the PC, this wasn't a bad game, and I actually enjoyed playing it every now and then as it was a change from my usual C&C antics. But on the PSX... Oh, it was shit! Shit with a capital S!
