I've finished the v1.2 of this SBC! Very happy with this version. It does everything I wanted it to, and it's a lot of fun playing with it. I'm playing Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy on it at the moment. I think I need to work on optimising my implementation of CP/M next, to speed it up a bit!

I just ordered one, can't wait to play with it. I still have my old Kaypro II CP/M computer so it will be neat to have something in case it ever breaks.

Oh great, that is worth knowing. I'm fixing up some bugs in my CP/M implementation, so it would be good to see the Z80 playground side-by-side with the Kaypro, to compare results.
@johnfloy
@johnfloy 3 жыл бұрын
@@CircuitBreaker256 it will really be nice just transferring the files via USB. Right now with the kaypro I use a Wifi serial modem and kermit, it works but 9600 baud only. I've got some videos of the entire restoration project on my youtoube channel if you want to check it out. It went from not powering on, to gibberish, to working again. It was a long process but it's in pretty good shape right now.

@@matthewpeterson5159 It's a really useful feature. Even just for simple testing if it works you have easy access to all the Z80 busses so easily. It just makes routing the PCB harder, that's all.

Been interesting to watch this project evolve, and it's surprising how few parts are needed to make a working computer! Pretty sure I've got most of the parts to build this up, aside from the USB flash and serial modules, of course. Would you consider making just the board and modules available at a reduced cost?
@CircuitBreaker256
@CircuitBreaker256 3 жыл бұрын
I think I'll bring out a kit version of all the parts because I know a lot of people enjoy soldering. It's only an hour or two of soldering depending on your skills. And it is all thru-hole so very straight-forward.
@dh2032
@dh2032 3 жыл бұрын
I'm also surprising they seem to be just new versions the original old parts from what I can see, the only thing would be the memory has got a lot smaller/compact, from when CP/M machines where new?

@@dh2032 I think the main difference is that in the 1980s ram was really expensive. In fact all the ICs were expensive, but RAM seems to have been extremely expensive. My first computer had 1K ram and 8k rom.

Does it boot from eeprom?
@CircuitBreaker256

Yes, it boots from EEPROM, just enough to get started, and loads CP/M from the USB Drive, then once we get to CP/M it switches the ROM off so you have all 64K ram clear.
