Really disappointing to see what a horrid state ZA/UM is digging for themselves. I don't think Disco Elysium 2 if it comes out will be very good. I wish Kurvitz luck on getting his IP back.

@normalguycap Easy answer Che Guevara shirt sold for profit, Rage against the machine selling tickets for millions more serious answer look at how much the narrative of "taking down the evil wealthy elite" is sold in media and not just from some 'indie' book/movie/game studio but by massive corporations, films like the Glass Onion are a perfect example of this it's a film about how horrible the wealthy are, starting wealthy actors and made by a wealthy director for profit even more seriously look at how many "Anti-Capitalist leftists!" Jumped into the arms of the military industrial complex in the last couple of years."This time, it's for a good reason!" The people meant to be the harshest critics of the system completely subsumed and consumed by it to the point of supporting the very worst aspects of it. Both the 'wealthy elite' and 'revolutionary critics' end up selling the same empty and hollow idea of rebellion.

Not really Fortress Accident, from what we see, seems to have failed specifically because of developers' feature creep and inability to set and meet deadlines. The big money men did not contribute to its death whatsoever. ZA/UM's failure, on the other hand, stems from the big money men strangling competent developers as hard as they can.

The new writer is trash. The old writer had that cynicism you only get in eastern europe. The new writer is hopeful, even as he points out how shit everything is.
@boodle3995 ай бұрын
So was the old writer? Disco elyisum is very hopeful and optimistic at times. It was cynical, but it showed people could move past that into something better. The game literally ends (assuming you didn't fuck up) solving the case and being once again respected by your cop peers, you literally improve lives in the game via your actions. This seems like a very narrow-minded view of Disco. Yeah, it said the world sucked and everything was shit but that didn't make it *cynical* Not even saying the new writer is good, just this is a weird ass take on game.
@TheAussieBlue5 ай бұрын
@@boodle399 i didnt say the game was cynical (although it is) i said the writer was cynical. Old writer: communism is doomed and stupid. The old guard are insane murderers who conducted purges and legalised boy buggering, the new are naive overeducated young people who gatekeep against other communists instead of doing anything, and the best bet for a communist revolution and a free Revachol is an asshole who is turning Martinese into the heart of an international drug operation. And even then, the immense forces of the corrupt colonialist international government will just flatten the city again to stop it if they try. New writer: communism is here, the people are rebuilding after the war that gave them freedom, the tyrannical evil has been overthrown, and the people dare to smile again.

@@TheAussieBlue I didn't read the book club guys that way. It seemed more like a hopeful, yet careful critique of the modern communist movement. I think the scene where you build the tower piece by piece with them really demonstrates it well: Communism isn't built in a day, and if we want to achieve it, we must work together and build it carefully, block by block. The seemingly impossible structure is held together by the collective plasm of the builders, and, even if only for a moment, something amazing stands, a testament to hope in a dying world.
@cia4u4014 ай бұрын
@@mogim815 Yeah this is the way. And even then the moment you feel a bit of doubt the whole system just crumbles apart. It's meant to show you how there could be hope for something so inplausible in a world like Elysium, or even our own. It's a longuing for something that seemingly can't be, yet you still desperately wish for it to be so. It's disco-core. "In dark times, should the stars also go out?"

I do wish the developers at ZAUM the best, personally I have no doubts they'll make a great game. Some people act like the three who were removed comprised the entirety of ZAUM, when it was a whole team, large chunks of which are still at the studio, and I trust they'll make a great game. It's just a shame it all has to be tainted with this.
@boserboser68704 ай бұрын
Will say they fired the person who litterally created the world. Disco elysium is a prequel to a book the creator wrote (imagine if georfe lucas made a starwars game and then he got kicked off of it and suddenly he's not the creator). It IS their intelectial property. Studios stealing stuff pf writters is bad eneugh as is.
