Covering is the symbol of submission - if married, to the husband, if unmarried, to the father in the culture of Paul's day. Paul wants to tell the believers that becoming Christian did not change their culture (unless a culture has a pagan religious bearing). He is not recommending any head-covering ritual to be followed universally. One can cover her head and still be rebellious and disobedient while one can abstain from covering and still be submissive to their men. If all the cultures mentioned in the Bible are literally followed by the believer today, people will only be changing their culture and not their heart by God's grace.

Moses put vail on his face when the congregation afraid of God's glory that shone through Moses' face. Exodus 34:30 (KJV) "And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him." Exodus 34:33-34 (KJV) "And till Moses had done speaking with them, he put a vail on his face. But when Moses went in before the LORD to speak with him, he took the vail off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded." Moses did that because the congregation afraid of God's glory which shone through Moses's face. But when he went before God, he took the veil off. Moses did exactly what Paul said in his letter: 1 Corinthians 11:4 (KJV) "Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head." "But when Moses went in before the LORD to speak with him, he took the vail off, until he came out." Moses praying in the present of God without covering his face/head. From that we know that actually Moses' face/head shone the glory of God and he didn't wear veil when he went before God, but it was the congregation's fear that "forced" him to put a veil on his face. But we believers of Christ are not afraid of God's Glory because Jesus made us confident to go in the present of God. Hebrews 4:16 (KJV) "Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." That's why we, men don't use veil on our head because the glory of God shine through our head. And women should wear veil because they shine the glory of men. 1 Corinthians 11:7 (KJV) "For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man." Because only the glory of God that can shine among the congregation, not the glory of man, so the women musn't shine the glory of man. To do so, women should wear veil whenever praying to God. Is it cloth or hair? Did Moses wear cloth or hair to veil the Glory of God shone through his face?

Having a question in mind. Would be glad if some one answers it. Women is just a helper to man? Doesn't it sound like women is secondary but not equal? Then, in marriage why did bible say they become one flesh? One flesh did refer to two half's right? Aren't we the different parts in one body that holds equal importance and can't say one is superior than other.

Jesus submited to the will of the Father although the Father and Jesus are one. Does that help with your question?

Being a helper doesn't mean you are unequal. It's not demeaning. Both are equal and have different responsibilities. Jesus submits to God the father and holy spirit to Jesus and God but they are still 3 in one. Hope it helps. 💕😊

@Blessing Uduchukwu Judge among yourselves. Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him? But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her; for her hair is given to her for a covering. Paul uses two different Greek words for covering, one meaning "mantle" and the other "veil". In that verse it means "mantle"

What if the woman is single?
@mustardseed_55

You probably already have your question answered, but just in case Mr. Poonen has expanded on this subject in an article for his church. Look up "cfc head coverings." Here is my more direct answer in regards to a single woman: The idea is simply that woman was made as man's helper (1 Tim. 2:13 and Genesis 2:18 explain this too), thus she is to have a symbol of authority on her head, and so that all glory would go to God in the meeting of the saints and no glory of man or woman would be exalted (a case for clapping at church could be made here... maybe next time). Woman is the glory of man (v. 7), so a woman testifies to this by covering her head (symbol of authority). A woman's hair is her glory (v. 15), so she should cover her hair that woman's glory may not be exalted over God. Women naturally know that their hair is a big part of their beauty: verses 14 and 15 convey this as well as myself (no divine instruction in personal preference though...). If you like old-time commentaries, John Calvin has interesting insights on 1 Corinthians 11:5. So, some choose to cut their hair short (v. 6). At least, I have seen some godly men's wives have short hair. In the NASB it does not say "since," rather "if it is disgraceful" for a woman to have short hair and it is not very disgraceful in this current culture for a woman to have short hair (I use both ESV and NASB with NASB being slightly more "word for word" as you probably know). Verse 3 explains how man is the head of woman and you can go on and on about male headship (Voddie Baucham has some great sermons on this. Again, NASB says "woman," which makes sense in the flow of the verse, while ESV says "wife"). Thus, a woman is always under the authority of a man be it her father or her husband. Hence the phrase, "give her hand in marriage." I'll leave you to your own convictions, but Scripture makes it clear that man is head and woman is helper. No matter if married or not, a woman has an authority over her. Feminism would tell woman now-a-days to break "free" and be the boss of their house as what happened at Sandeep Poonen's church in California. A head covering while praying or prophesying with the congregation of Christians (or gathering of Christians in dignified assemblies like a private house, according to Mr. Calvin) displays a woman having authority over her (what Mr. Poonen is saying at 0:34). I know my explanation is a little jumbled, but I hope it guides in the right direction as we are truly taught by the abiding in Christ and through the Holy Spirit (1 John 2:27; John 8:31-32. p.s. the later is the CIA's unofficial motto. Learn something new everyday...). I come from a culture where this is nowhere to be found (California, go figure) and I am pretty much against everyone (including my church, even though it has sound doctrine) in most things, but that is to be expected, isn't it (John 15:19)? I know this is a late reply for your question with not everything answered perfectly, but I pray God is at work and that we would find Biblical Womanhood and Manhood once again.

women are not told to coveri their heads. cor 11;16 But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God. it was the tradition and custon and culture of those times. nothing else in 1 pet 3 we read about women coming to the church meetings with plaited hair so women did not cover the hair. thirdly, the Bible says that everything has to be gounded on at least TWO witnesses. there is only ONE place in the Bible where you read about the head covering and that is also not very clear since we read in the very passage that the hair of women is their covering. in the new testament we dont follow the traditions of old. we follow Lord Yeshu who set us free from the external things. now the reality is Christ Himself. not the things on the outside those who wear head coverings rely on the Flesh which is SIN and that is the WRONG REBELLION... thats bondage to sin...
