But then by the time he realised, it was already too late and Alex has Charlie. In the last episode when Charlie and Alex are holding hands on the couch at monets you can see the pain in Zachs eyes

*SPOILER ALERT* Am I the only one who was thoroughly pissed off by Zach and Alex’s relationship by the end of season 4? Don’t get me wrong, I fucking love Charlie so much and I love that he makes Alex happy but Zach and Alex had so much more build up and chemistry and emotion in their relationship. Their story could have ended perfectly right up until Alex and Winston broke up and Charlie got in the mix. After Winston, Alex should have realised that he still really liked Zach and, after Chloe told Zach about her boyfriend, they had the absolute best time to get together and explore and recognise their feelings for each other. I love Charlie so much but it feels like he was thrown in just to give Alex a happy ending but I don’t know. They were really cute together but I just don’t enjoy their relationship as much as I do Zach and Alex’s. End of rant lol.

Whilst I really liked them together romantically, I think it was important for Zach to not fall for Alex. In s3 I was waiting for it to happen, but I think normalising the fact that males can be close, affectionate and loving of each other whilst still being straight/not developing romantic or sexual feelings is so important and it's a plot line that isn't explored enough. I also think Zach's response to Alex kissing him was so perfect too, Zach made sure that Alex didn't hate himself for potentially having ruined the friendship by emphasising that it was okay, he just didn't feel the same and they're gonna continue hanging out because they're friends irregardless. Zach is one of the best characters on the show.
