Great info, thanks! For my primary residence in Florida I have an older model of the Netgear Orbi that I'm happy with but its the one without the built-in router. I'd like to get the new one that has one built in and ditch the rental fee with Xfinity. In a perfect world my place in Florida is on the third floor and my garage with a nice setup (home gym, flat screen, internet TV/youtube, etc) is on ground level. I have the Orbi on the 3rd floor with the satellite in the garage. SOMETIMES it works (about half the time). There's clearly too many obstructions and walls for it to be perfect but still trying to brainstorming a way to make it work solid. I've thought about adding the Orbi outdoor satellite and put it on the 3rd floor balcony to see if that does anything, but who knows. To give you an idea the condo is on the 3rd floor then when you walk out the door and down 3 flights I'm the very first garage on street level at the bottom of the stairs. The new Orbi system doesn't even have an outdoor satellite so not sure if that will change but I can't get the new system and ditch Xfinity's router until that happens and that's even if it works. Unless the range has improved with this newer model? My house in the Boston area is about 3K sq ft with a finished basement office and attic/3rd floor playroom area. My current Orbi that's now here in Florida was in Massachusetts in 2020, but I had problems getting it to work in the master bedroom because of interference. I was going to add a satellite to that room but when I relocated to Florida more of the time I just took it with me. Now in Boston we have the Fios Router that obviously is junk as far as distance goes. That's a project for another time.... The bottom line is these are all fun hobbies that occupy my time that I enjoy and irritate me at the same time lol. I think when I'm back in Boston for a month I'll bring my Orbi I have now there, buy another Satellite and solve that problem. But for my primary issue with the garage in Florida when I come back maybe I'll buy the new Orbi system and see if I can make a miracle happen from 3rd floor to garage. :-) Again, maybe the newer model will reach better...

Hey, thanks for all the info. I'm assuming at 3K sq ft and 3 stories in Boston it's a townhome? If so that adds more interference from neighbors but even still I would recommend a Satellite on each floor for sure. So I'm guessing you have 2 homes. Is the one in FL a single-family or condo? If a one-story condo then you shouldn't need more than 1-2 depending on how to spread out it is and how much interference you are getting. I use my Orbi RBK753S AX4200 because I needed a 3 pack and I didn't need the next level just yet. I use it with ATT and figured out my settings. I have 2 friends that use it with ATT and they get better speeds than I do because they don't have the ATT issues I have. amzn.to/3guCNmT The Orbi 6 is the next level but a 3 pack is $899 amzn.to/3xhwERU for sure is the top premium router right now on the market. It can not only handle a LOT of devices but also just has top-of-the-line materials and tech. All this is assuming you have over 500MB coming down, I'm assuming with FiOS you probably have a gig. If FL is a condo and lower speeds you don't really control, you might only need a Google Nest Wifi there. I hope this helps. I have a video on Orbi 6 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fJOkd7h7u92rYp8.html

Man you are so right about the Nighthawk RAX200. I bought the Orbi in your video (RBK852) and it runs like a champ. Easy setup and very fast internet. I always wanted to try out the RAX200 just to see how well it works so I ordered it and it arrived today. The setup was very frustrating. Once I got everything setup I checked the incoming speed of my Xfinity service to the Nighthawk. I usually get 1200Mbps in the Orbi app because I'm using the latest Netgear CM2000 modem with a 2.5G WAN connector. The Nighthawk showed 409Mbps out of the box. The weird thing was my MacBook Pro achieved 500+Mbps so that didn't make any sense. That's when I knew the RAX200 was wonky. I rebooted to correct the issue and the system bricked. Spent an hour trying to go through the entire setup again. Had to do a hard reset twice. Finally got it to work after 3 hours of frustration. Default settings prioritized my iPhone 11 on the 2.4Ghz band and my MacBook Pro on the 5Ghz band. So on my 1Gig Xfinity plan I was getting 100Mbps on the iPhone 11. NO GOOD! Went online and changed the settings to automatically choose the proper bands. Well my iPhone 11 was finally put on 5Ghz band and all my wifi clients were properly prioritized but my Internet speeds decreased. This does not happen with my Orbi RBK852. Using the Orbi router by itself (without the satellite) still achieved much faster internet speeds over the RAX200, especially at remote distances from the Orbi. I always get about 900+Mbps on my iPhone 11 when standing close to the Orbi. The fastest I could get with the RAX200 closeup was 600+Mbps. The Orbi with the CM2000 modem shows direct connection from Xfinity at 1200Mbps without issue. No special adjustments or configuration. The RAX200 is going back to Netgear ASAP. I guess I was more intrigued by the extra USB ports and amazing advertised specs like 160Mhz Wifi but in real world use the Orbi RBK852 kills it. I've seen so many negative reviews about the RAX200. People are not exaggerating. I've also noticed the availability for this router has been quite spotty. I'm wondering if Netgear is having so many problems with it they are limiting distribution until they can fix the shoddy firmware.

I remember when I switched from Comcast to AT&T (couple years ago) having to screw around with the IP Passthrough because Bridged Mode wouldn't work. Just curious what you learned about that whole process - or if they have better/different units now. Did you experience gig speeds with hardwired devices at least?

Perhaps firmware updates have fixed whatever issues could have been, but I have had the absolute opposite with ATT 1 gig up/down speed using the Orbi RBK 852 and putting the Gateway in IP passthrough mode. I'm getting 600-700 down all over the house using an iPhone 12 which is a wifi 6 device. Wifi 5 devices also pull 500 consistantly.

Regardless if you have low speed broadband, having Wi-fi 6 will allow you to TX data between devices on your own network faster. For instance if you have a server or a NAS, file copys to them will be much faster using a mesh system with a backhaul link. My servers are on a 1Gbs link to the router, over Wi-fi 5 I can tx at 15Mbs to the server , over Wifi 6 , Im seeing 100Mbs - like using a wired 1Gbs link/ethernet. All my Latops and Desktops are Wi-fi 6 so can work best, however Wi-fi 5 devices will work better on a 6 network.

I had a Nighthawk x6 R8000. Tried to update the firmware that was recommended in the interface and bricked my router. Now I am looking at the Orbi package at Costco to use at our office. Wondering if the mesh will better handle multiple devices and the office is narrow and long so maybe 3 units will be a little to much or will be just right? Need to handle the new 600mb plan but most important be consistent for multiple devices.

Zachus Thanks. I actually got that one. So far I am very happy. It came with a router and 2 satellites. The installation was so easy compared with regular router, it was user friendly and the app is very refined compared with the Nighthawk. The 3 pieces was very easy to pair during installation. Since my office is narrow and long I was able to have the router almost center and the other 2 towers at the edges getting great coverage. I also upgraded to a 600mb internet. I have a 2012 MacBook and I was able to get 250mb+ on WiFi and 600mb hard wired. The best part is that the satellites have 2 ports so I connected my computer to one and turned WiFi off. I got top speed, just like been connected straight to the modem which is impossible most of the time. The last thing I would point out is that since I have 3 towers I am hopping the interference from nearby WiFi will decrease. There are probably 20 other WiFi that I can see in my office. Overhaul it has been 1 week and nothing to complain. Let’s hope stay this way for several years. But forget about the customer service. 🤣

This is a wifi router only, so you do need a modem. Your ISP should provide one or you'll need to buy one. Not sure how Dubai works. In the USA most ISP (Internet Service Providers) offer or give you a modem and even a router sometimes but I prefer to buy my own to make sure I'm getting max speeds I'm paying for. I have 1 Gig down and up. What kind of speeds do you guys get in Dubai?

@@Zachus Ok, i get it. Here we get a modem cum router from the ISP. This basically converts the light to an electrical signal from the fiber box and it can be used for some wifi. You can say it is a light setup. If the wifi is weak then they suggest we go for a range extender which will get the work done. After seeing your video, no doubt I have made up my mind to go for the Orbi6. Now its only the connection part which might be a bit confusing 😇. For the testing purpose, I thought I will borrow my friend's Asus RT AC87U. This is a AC dual-band router. So the connection I'm planning to do is Hopefully this works.. 😊. In Dubai we get speeds starting from 35 Mbps up to 1Gbps, depending upon the subscription we choose. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to seeing more videos. 👍🏽👍🏽

I currently have gig plan with xfinity and the orbi rbk852 and netgear nighthawk cm1200 modem. If I switch to a satellite company that advertises more then the gig speed from Comcast is there any equipment that I would need to upgrade? As I’ve learned you can buy the gig plan from xfinity but if you don’t have the equipment to handle it your not gona get what your paying for. So with my current setup do I need anything else. Do I need a certain type of cable through my house to receive speeds higher then the gig?
@Zachus
@Zachus 4 жыл бұрын
Your ISP provider such as Comcast/xFinity/ATT/Verizon/Etc... doesn't really matter, the router is what handles your wifi connections. The Orbi 6 RK852 can easily handle a gigabit and will work with anything. The satellite will work the same way, although I'd do a lot of research into this option especially if it's HughNet. They can offer fast downloads but usually the upload speed is VERY low. Hope this helps

Most people with Orbi 6 do get closer to 1 gig on wifi but a lot of things determine the strength beyond the router such as design of the home, structure, material, also other things in the air like neighbor's wifi routers, device pull on the system, etc... It sounds like Orbi 6 bumped you more than double what you were getting on Nest Wifi. With Comcast are you connected directly to the modem or to another router? Make sure you are directly connected to the modem. If it's a combo you have to tweak it and put comcast into bypass mode. Also, be sure and test directly at your CM1200 with a wired connection that you are truly getting 1 gig down. Hope this helps

No, if you watch my other videos I finally tweaked a few things and got it to work on mine. I'm not getting 1 gig over wifi but with the Orbi 6 and Orbi AX4200 I am getting over 600 most of the time on devices that go that high. I've also found that AT&T is different in different regions and even neighborhoods. Some I know are having no issues and others have issues like me. Seems like their Modem/Router combo, software, config and then their infrastructure in the area that affect things from what I can see. I would say try it and you can always return or swap it. On mine oddly enough I found putting it in Passthrough mode (similar to bridge mode) that it made it worse so I just left it alone and let the Router software work it out. Orbi/Netgear have self-healing smart adaption software so after one day I noticed it got better and has stayed pretty solid.

Hello ! Is orbi 6 modem router combo ?
@Zachus
@Zachus 4 жыл бұрын
No all of these are just routers. As far as I know only ISP providers do the combo versions but I could be wrong about that. It's normally not good because you just don't get quality.

I just purchased an Orbi set up and unexpectedly it will not allow Netflix or Hulu,.etc to play.. on both smart tv and via roku 😳 I was excited until this revelation. If anyone has a solution, please let me know!

That's really strange on box AX6000 and AX4200 I've had no issues on Roku, AppleTV nor FireTV and even Google Chromecast is working. What device are you watching these on and what is the message you are getting? Have you tried to reboot your router? Unplug it for 30-60 seconds and then plug it back in

Also, your issue with AT&T, did you set the AT&T router to just be a router, switch off the Wifi on that. then link the Orbi to the AT&T router via Ethernet, then just use the ORBI Wifi and the AT&T router just becomes the gateway to the internet. You will get close to 1Gb data rate, ensure than any QAS is turned off. Never try and bridge a providers Wi-fi with one of these systems, its will be terrible.

I've done everything I can. I have wifi off and IP Passthrough on, ATT has been out several times. I have friends with ATT that run Orbi 6 and are getting screaming speeds over wifi. Not sure what my situation is. They've replaced the Modem/Router, ONT, Re-run wires, even gone to the main connection box in the neighborhood and put new ends on and cleaned it. I realize now it's not the Orbi 6, I saw it run fast at a friends house and know it's an amazing Wifi Router. For some reason my system no matter what router I get won't go over 400 and usually not over 350. I googled, talked to friends, and can't figure it out...

@@Zachus i just set mine, up i turned off the ORBI protection software and set it into AP mode and pluged it into the router. Works blazing fast. The protection software was limiting speed a little. went from 150 Mb to 400Mb with it off which is the max speed in this house I am in right now.

Tom Murphy I am curious if it could handle my 1 gb/s speed. Nowadays I have rbk50 with 500mb/s max, maybe 460 on real tests. Need to know if it will deserve an upgrade to rbk852

That's frustrating - as if the nighthawk isnt expensive enough, now you need to go even higher, just to maybe get somewhere in range of what they promised... Glad you confirmed the rumors about Nighthawk, saved a few grey hairs.

I have the tp link p9 wifi mesh thick wall deal with att fiber. I believe all companies are shitty xfinity is the same way but they know they can play us around like what are we gonna do cancel and go somewhere else 😂.

You don't have to use what they give you and I certainly wouldn't pay for it. Much cheaper long term to buy your own and get what you like.

Instead of complaining about your ISP why not change? Or are you guys locked to an ISP based on your area :S

Most neighborhoods hear especially newer ones only give you 1-2 options. I have 2 but the second is worse than what I have so living with it.

@@Zachus bugger. We are able to move about a range of isps as the fibre network is gov owned. Up to 1gb speeds for home use. Generally 50mb 100mb 250mb and 1000mb is available unless you are unlucky.

_You are right ATT is the worst company on earth! They monopolized my area for over 20 yrs! Finally I got Verizon 5G this year and now I am shopping for Netgear Orbi to see if it may boost security camera connections downstairs and outdoor_

I wish I had seen your video before I bought the RAX200 and spending $600. The RAX200 looks great, but preforms lousy. Not happy at all with it. I wish I could return it, but I bought at Best Buy and it's been over 15 days. It was easy to setup, but I did have a few issues with the remote management where I needed to contact Netgear's support. Netgear's support is the worst that I have dealt with. On just that alone I would never buy Netgear devices ever again. Anyone reading this. I suggest that you DON'T give Netgear your business. You'll be sorry.
