Perforated drain hose works well as a baffle. The type of stuff that’s about 4 inches wide and looks like black vacuum hose

The brass Garden hose tip flows about 1.5 GPM. 3/4" garden hose has considerably less friction loss than 1/2". 4.5 times less at 1GPM. Putting a shut-off inline behind the tip lets you chose your pattern and conserves water. Of course more pressure and volume = more $. You can mop up a fire for 200 / 1.5 = 2.2 hours. Nice job. The thing with fires is keep them small. Keep an eye out for a 1/8 "x GH tip. (or 3/16) More straight stream distance and you can make a fog pattern with your fingertip. Of course with a smooth bore tip you need a pistol grip or some other shut-off to keep from wasting water. Tips and tricks from retired wildland firefighter. :)

Hey Zack. I'm a Firefighter and I wanted to share with you 2 things in a helpful way. 1) Surfactant is used in the firefighting service to break the surface tension of the water to make the water thinner, by doing this, water seeps into the "hard to put out brush fires" and is more efficient at extinguishment. Works great on Structure fires also. So depending on the type of surfactant and its effect on the ecosystem, you could have used that to your benefit. Dawn dish detergent is used in many cases and works great, and its safe for the ecosystem. 2) Fire Engines are no supposed to drive highway speeds with anything other than an empty or full tank. You mentioned the sloshing, sloshing has been proven to be a contributing cause of Fire Engine rollovers. A full tank is heavier but it reduces the dynamic forces that contribute to rollover. To stop the sloshing use 50 to 70 ft perforated 4 inch big O pipe in your tank it acts like a baffel with hardly and water loss

You’d love this thing: all steel with orchard sprayer tires that are HUGE. Gonna build the rest for our sprayer too. Love the beard and the Letterkenny inset had me dying. 😂

Great idea. I own 380 acres and always thinking about fire. I have a 100 gallon poly tank and I bought a used pressure washer on Facebook market place for 100.00. It’s 2500psi and 2.5 gallons per minute. I use the 0 degree nozzle and I hoped I would never have to use it. I was wrong. I was glad I had it. My neighbor was cutting hay and had a fire and his wife called 911 he called me. I drove over and we started the pressure washer and I had the fire out before the fire department came. When they did come they were impressed. They told me the just ordered a skid unit that uses Ultra High pressure system similar to a pressure washer. Since then I bought a hose reel and 100’ of pressure washer hose and a few extra 0 degree nozzles. I have about 200 in all. I like the way you think. My neighbor liked it so much he bought a 50 gallon poly tank and he had an old 3500 psi pressure washer and made a skid for his side by side. Stay safe

If you install a baffle in the tank to get the level up, I almost wonder if the pump is actually a restriction to the natural head pressure from the water vessel height + truck bed height..? An upgrade worth considering is a way to rapidly refill it. I have a dirt cheap Harbor Freight 120V trash pump that moves water in a surprisingly large hurry. Setting something like that up in a trash can down by the lake could prove useful.

Great idea, and is far better than nothing at all, good thinking, mate.👍🏽 Ha, saw baby beard on your shirt and remembered when you got that thing...😆 Wonder if it would help to paint the tank, or cover somehow, to keep the sun from making the water green and slimy, potentially clogging the hose with clumps of algae?

A sprayer pump like that doesn't put out enough GPM for a grass fire. If something was smoldering you could use it for that but the volume is just not enough. Some sprayer pumps can put out as much as 7GPM which is a little better but as others have said a gasoline 2" single or double stage pump through a 3/4" hose will be safer and much more effective. And as others have said use perforated drain tile to baffle the tank it works really well I've already done it.
